Spirit/Jade/Sun ....now the Epic

Recommended Posts

We have sailed on the Spirit and Jade - fabulous ships and the Sun (not nearly as good ) ...now looking at the Epic .

Much bigger .

Any advice on the best decks /balcony/ between passenger decks/midships to look at .

Any favourite cabins ?

On the Spirit and Jade we always chose deck 10 midships ...but made a mistake when we booked deck 10 midships on the Sun and it was the deck below the pool.

thanks

I've sailed the Epic 5 times.  When in a balcony, I liked the middle decks (11 or 12) if you're a stair climber, it's easy to go up or down the stairs on the Epic, and there's no sound from decks above or below.

We recently sailed Epic. Cabin 12017. Large balcony, forward, starboard side. Easy access to pool and garden cafe. We generally walked down from 15 to 12…and sometimes up.  We were about 16 rooms from the stairs/elevator.

Get one right next to where the club balcony rooms start (the bump out section). You will have a double balcony....the size is amazing! FYI, the rooms are super small on the epic and that's saying something since rooms are small on ships to begin with. Choose the Epic for the stops, definitely not the ship.

Make sure you study the Deck Plans.  If you compare the areas by orienting along with the stairs and elevators, you should be able to find cabins or suites that have others on both sides and also above and below.

The Epic peculiarity most often mentioned on Cruise Critic is that the bath facilities are located in the stateroom, not in a separate bathroom.  The shower stall and toilet are located near the cabin door, one on either side.  They are enclosed by frosted glass sliding doors.  The sink is located near the foot of the bed.  There is a curtain which may be drawn between the bed and the bath stalls, but it does not completely block out light or sound.  Someone using the bathroom in the middle of the night will likely awaken the other passenger in the room.  Haven suites feature tradition bathroom arrangements, but Balcony and Inside rooms do not have separate bathrooms.

Thanks everyone for your very helpful replies .

The bathroom arrangements are ok (we have been married many years !!) .

Are all the club balcony cabins on the "hump" ...and is it worth paying extra for a Club ?  We are Platinum .

I'll have a look on the deck plans ..we always prefer midships  so probably deck 11 or 12 and we don't mind the stairs .

Best wishes,

Only you can decide if price difference between club and regular balcony is good for you. IMO, the extra room in the sink area would be nice on a TA. Also, if you like to use room service breakfast, I would suggest picking a cabin with the bed near the balcony.

yes, the bathroom set up is weird on the Epic, but we got use to it... Just dont flush the toliet if you get up in the middle of the night, will wake your partner up!! Aside from that it is not a deal breaker.
