Walk to Atlantis or skip?

We are on a short 3-day cruise.  We are not planning to do a paid full day excursion when we are in Nassau.

Im curious if people would say it’s worth it to get off the boat to go see the Atlantis lobby area (but not do the beach/pool area) just to see it.

Or if we should just stay on the boat and enjoy relaxing for the day.

It’s only a 3-night cruise so only want to go if it’s really something people should see.

thanks!

Do NOT walk through that area of Nassau - boarded up businesses, ship storage and repair areas, etc. Not safe, even by day.

You cannot enter the lobby of the Royal Tower - they have “hall monitors” turning cruisers away. Little to see except shops and casino.

one trip i decided i wanted to see the staircase. it was 3 of us walking. we got near the hospital and it just didnt feel right. no particular reason. turned around to head back to the ship. the area near the pirate museum was ok, mcdonalds and even the tortuous straw market seem pretty safe though.

now as far as vendors literally chasing  you down the street to get you to buy a tshirt. thats another issue.

i do hope the new terminal is done by May so thats at least something new to look forward to!

It's a two mile walk.  The first 1/3 mile won't be bad.  The next 2/3 mile to the bridge is not a nice area.  The bridge and beyond is okay.  But you can go into the old Coral towers (the old hotels before the Royal towers were built) and the Casino and some gift shops.  There is a "casino bypass" from where you'd get turned away from entering the Royal Towers that has some nice views of the private beach area, but it isn't worth a two mile walk. A shared taxi is cheap, Cabbage Beach is right down the road and a shorter, safer walk to Atlantis.

My daughter and I experienced the exact same thing - walking to the Queen's staircase and we both got the sensation we were walking into trouble. We had gotten off the ship and headed left towards the hospital using Google maps. It was seriously "sketchy".  We doubled back the way we came and when we got back to the "touristy" area, we headed up the hill and *then* left to the staircase and fort, and it was much better.

My mother and I walked to Queen's Staircase (and Governor's House).  I didn't feel unsafe.  I did stop at a couple places to ask directions and they either didn't know or gave the wrong directions, which I thought odd.

Thanks for asking this question.  We've been to Nassau twice before.  Once did the aquarium at Atlantis (it was pretty new at the time) and once rented a moped and drove around and got lost (probably not to be recommended)  We're a touch older now and I don't know what we're going to do on this next trip there.  The other half cannot sit still long enough to make paying $200 each for a seat at a beach worth it.  We won't have any kids with us, so I honestly would prefer going "somewhere" that won't be overrun with them.
