djkk Posted April 5, 2023 #1 Share Posted April 5, 2023 Hello, has anyone taken the Royal Caribbean excursion to the Bucaneer Resort in St Croix? I'm curious why it is so expensive, since no food is included. Thanks for any info.
lovestx Posted May 13, 2023 #2 Share Posted May 13, 2023 The reason it's so expensive is probably because the Buccaneer is the nicest resort on the island, is at least a 30 minute drive from the pier and their beaches are beautiful. Actually interested that they offer an excursion through Royal Caribbean. If you are looking for a nice day at the beach and don't care if you see more of the island than just F'sted, you might look into booking a day pass at Sandcastle on the Beach. I believe they charge $40 on cruise ship days and that gives you a chaise lounge, a shared umbrella and access to their pool, clean restrooms and the beach. They usually have a beach server who will get your drinks and their lunches are nice. You can walk there from the pier.

lovestx Posted March 29 #5 Share Posted March 29 From the pier to Sandcastles is probably a mile.

We were in St. Croix several years ago (husband spoke at a church) for two weeks so enjoyed the Island at that time. Quick ?s - 1) is the path/roadway/walk to Sandcastles easy to find and 2) if we simply want to get off ship to stretch legs, is it worthwhile to see as we most likely would not rent chairs, etc., would do a relaxing round trip? Do not recall visiting that beach.
lovestx Posted April 16 #7 Share Posted April 16 Cell free, it is very easy to follow the streets adjacent to the pier to the south and find Sandcastles. It would be a pretty beach to walk on once you get past Strand Street but the hotel isn’t a destination if you aren’t going to rent chairs.
Bertaelflamingo Posted April 19 #8 Share Posted April 19 As I understand, the Sandcastle only allows a certain number of day passes. Do we need to be first off the ship and get there right away? How quickly does it fill up?
lovestx Posted April 19 #9 Share Posted April 19 It is true that Sandcastles only has a defined number of passes given their size. I have never been on a cruise ship day but would guess you need to get there pretty early. Perhaps you should try calling them and asking their advice. They have an incredibly nice staff (except for one crabby beach attendant....)
