sanders Posted April 14, 2023 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2023 I love interesting places to grab a small bite to eat and going into these interesting stores that are not your everyday scene when I’m travelling. Where are some cool places to eat and shop that myself and a 9 year old might like? Not looking for fine dining … more like food trucks and diners etc. What are the not to miss food tastes in Sitka, Haines, Juneau and Ketchikan? Thanks in advance. wolfie11 Posted April 14, 2023 #2 Share Posted April 14, 2023 Ketchikan - Soho Coho on Creek Street. Best tee shirts ever! Burger Queen for food. 9 year old would love the fossil exhibit at the history museum. Sitka - smoked fish from the fisherman who sells it out of coolers in an alley by the drugstore just up from the bridge. Also, killer milkshakes and locally made Theobroma chocolate bars at the drug store. Haines - Sheldon Jackson museum has a nice gift shop. Juneau - lots of food stands down by the docks
Ashland Posted April 15, 2023 #3 Share Posted April 15, 2023 Juneau...Alaskan Fudge Company. Two locations on Franklin St. when we were there this past September. Loved Ketchikan Kandies but they have moved (from their original downtown location) and wasn't close to where we docked with RCI this time. Northern Aurora Posted April 15, 2023 #4 Share Posted April 15, 2023 Just a few comments: The Sheldon Jackson is not in Haines. It is located in Sitka and is an auxiliary location to the Alaska State Museum. There are a variety of shops in Ketchikan along Creek Street ranging from cheap souvenir shops to Ray Trolls interesting shop Soho Coho. And I have no idea if the “history museum” referenced in post 2 is a reference to the Tongass Museum or the SE Alaska Discovery Center (which is operated by the US Forest service, has a junior ranger program, and accepts a number of National park passes so check their website). libtrek Posted April 15, 2023 #5 Share Posted April 15, 2023 Just a thought. There are several Tongass stores in Ketchikan. Good source for sweatshirts, souvenirs, etc. They offer a service for ~$25 where they take all your shopping goodies, pack them up for you and ship to your home. Great for bulky items so you don’t have to fit them in your luggage.

Oops! It's the Sheldon Museum in Haines, not the Sheldon Jackson Museum. The Tongass Historical Museum is near Creek Street in the old library building. ChanaC Posted April 15, 2023 #7 Share Posted April 15, 2023 It Sitka, we loved the chowder sold inside the Sitka Sound Science Center gift shop. We almost didn't stop in there but we were passing by (on the way to and back from the Historical Park) and decided to check it out. We tried chowder at almost every stop (including Seattle's famous Pike Place Chowder) and we thought this was the best! We enjoyed eating it while sitting at one of the picnic tables outside overlooking the water. They also had some tasty looking sandwiches we didn't get, and the gift shop seemed to have a lot of cute stuff.
