Getting a champagne cork back into a bottle is a challenge since the end of the bouchon expands.

It's always been "one bottle", that's why we take five or six bottles of fizz.

It is total scaremongering as far as I can see - just back from 2 weeks on Queen Anne and you can still take on whatever you want!

Take sharp knife.  Cut off the ‘mushroom bulb”.  Turn cork upside down and insert the thin end into top of bottle.  Press hardish until just over half of the cork inserted.  Good for a short term fix.

Not forgetting the ability to replenish (increase) stock at every port of call.

 

As an aside, at Martinique the rolling on a barrel of Rhum caused much amusement.

Just pop a teaspoon into the neck of the bottle if you haven’t got a proper stopper to use. Works fine as a back up.

Alternatively, just use the fizzy wine stopper provided.
