Capt_BJ Posted June 14, 2023 #3 Share Posted June 14, 2023 Dixie Cross' IS the most well know place in Titus' and around since the 80's but I have a problem with this statement on their advertising: The menu features the very best local shrimp and fish from Port Canaveral, They opened in the 80's and the area hosted a TON of fishing boats back then. I was stationed here 86-89 and there was a slew of fish processing places in the port. I'd often seen boats parked four deep at the fish houses along the south side of Port Canaveral and rock shrimp was part of the big catch. TODAY all those boats are gone, those fish houses are gone the rock shrimp fishery is gone ..... Check the menu ... the big ticket items are Maine Lobster and Snow Crab .... not exactly local catch. IMO it is a local version of Red Lobster but to each their own . .

Good idea, for all the reasons that Capt. mentions. Plus, IMO it is a tourist trap, well past its prime, but still trying to attract customers on the old reputation. I have not personally been, but this place gets consistently rave reviews on a local foodie FB page. https://www.thirdculturekitchen.com/ Also, a local favorite for Mexican. . https://elleoncito.com/ Edited June 15, 2023 by EatonDoolittle

Tennessee Rose Posted July 13, 2023 #8 Share Posted July 13, 2023 You may have already been on your cruise, but for future reference, my sister and I had a very good meal at Shiloh's (steak and fish) in Titusville. It's been a few years ago, so I don't know the current thoughts on this place. It is right on the water and looks across to where the rockets, etc. launch.

I grew up in South Florida and enjoyed the days when fish and shrimp (stone crabs, too) were fresh off the boat. It is hard to find nowadays. We still go to Dixie Crossroads as a tradition. It is a throwback to old Florida as are the look of a lot of the motels in the Titusville area. Such fond memories. We recently tried Shilohs and really enjoyed it. I would definitely go there again. A plus is that they offer more than just seafood.
