Flying into FLL cruising out of Miami?

We always fly in the night before our cruise. Air flight and scheduling times flying into Miami doesn't fix well. So we are thinking about flying into FLL and go down to Miami port. We have never went into Miami before so we are not familiar with anything there. We need all the suggestions we can get. Do we stay in FLL and travel to port the next day or should we travel to Miami after we arrive and stay there over night. Also what type of transportation from from FLL to Miami and back after cruise is suggested?

to add a little: South Florida in July - October is often plagued with late afternoon thunderstorms as cooler ocean / Gulf air collides with hot air from the Everglades and around Lake Okeechobee.

Doesn't always happen, but experienced flyers tend to schedule flights arriving in Miami before the early afternoon, or after dark.

There are a couple of threads on this topic just down the board. It's generally cheaper to stay in FLL, and the later in the day you arrive in FLL, the more limited and expensive transportation to Miami becomes. So, better to stay in FLL, and get transportation direct to PortMiami the next morning.

Shuttles and Uber/Lyft are recommended here daily.

Many Dania Beach hotels have free shuttles from the airport. We're staying at Hyatt Place on 18th, across the street from Dania Point shopping center.

To get the port in the morning, you have Uber/Lyft, shared shuttles (such as SAS), or private shuttles (tons of options, check reviews and prices). We settled on Larry's Limos.

Excellent advice.

What time are you getting in? There is not some big excursion here. FLL airport is 20-miles from Port Miami. On a Saturday mooring it is a 30-40 min drive.

It really depends on what you prefer. If you are getting in earlier in the day going down to Miami makes sense. if getting in later at night, then you can pick some place close to FLL and then do the trip in the morning to Port Miami or get that out of the way and get to Miami first. In reality it does not make a huge difference just a difference between driving 30-45 mins in the morning or 30-45 mins to Miami and then a quick drive to the port.

There are shuttles from specific FLL hotels to Port Miami. But an uber/rideshare is fine as well. Price difference should not be large. Shuttle might be a little cheaper, but will take longer.

From the airport, Uber/Rideshare to Miami is the best option. Taxi will be very expensive.
