Sailing past Tongass Narrows

Do you mean the Point Atkinson lighthouse near Vancouver?
The Tongass Narrows are just south of Ketchikan. It is about 550 miles straight line from Vancouver, even farther on a cruise ship traveling through the Inside Passage.

Hey guys, haven't been on an Alaskan cruise in sometime, an am wonderin how far the Tongass Narrows is from Pt Atkins Lighthouse, anybody know? Thanks.

The distance will depend on the ship's routing, but should be 550 - 600 nmls

Distance is irrelevant.  The ship has to go through on a slack tide so the captain will speed up or slow down as necessary.  Northbound it is usually in the wee hours of the morning.  Ask your ship's naturalist or one of the deck officers if they're around.

Hi Heidi, maybe I got that wrong, about tongass Narrows, so how far is Seymour Narrows from Vancouver? Thanks, my mistake.

The distance from Vancouver Harbour to Seymour Narrows is 100 n/mls.

As Wolfie 11 noted, the BC Coast Pilots will only transit the Narrows at slack water +/- 1 hr. Personally, I have sailed through Seymour at any state of tide, up to 16 kts, but the ships were smaller and we didn't require pilots. Even the +/-1 hr may have changed, as I have been retired 10 yrs and no longer know any of the pilots.

The best you can experience is twilight, if they can transit about 22:00 - 22:30 and only if close to the solstice.
