Viking Jupiter: South America & the Chilean Fjords: Dec. 23, 2023 to Jan. 9, 2024, Santiago (Valparaiso) to Buenos Aires

We are former Oceania and Azamara folks, new to Viking. Just looking to see who’s on this cruise, tips on booking shore excursions, and simply other fun tips about cruising with Viking. We are pretty excited about the itinerary. 🤗

Read the shore excursion carefully for the Falkland Island.  We had signed up for Volunteer Point, 2 hrs in a 4 wheeler to reach the Point.  Several complained about the long off road ride.  We switched to the Bluff Cove excursion.  Had King and Gentoo penguins.  Can get very close.  Nice home made refreshments and gift shop.  Viking added many groups to this excursions.

We also booked the pre tour to Iguazu Falls. We arrived about 2:30 pm and were able to book the wet book ride into the falls.  Stayed in hotel inside the national park.  Excellent tour.

Read the shore excursions. Have your list ready and book as soon as possible for tours and dining.

We were able to change some after boarding.  We always request a shared table and have always had wonderful table mates.

We had a very knowledgeable naturalist on board. Bird and animal watching was held most mornings and afternoons.

Agree!   The general forum is for general topics and each cruise itself can have its own thread (roll call).  Look under the (I assume) Jupiter Roll calls.   

 

Perhaps the CC monitor can move this thread over.

 

Regarding the cruise - you will absolutely enjoy it!  We did this exact itinerary on Jupiter leaving Valparaiso on Dec 21 2019.  It was quite the festive Christmas and New Years cruise.  Christmas decorations, caroling, special foods, entertainment, and more.  Quite nice!

The Chilean Fjords are spectacular and cross our fingers you make the Falkland Islands as well!

Even with Covid restrictions this was a favorite cruise.  The excursion to Magellan Island is also a great one to see penguins.  We unfortunately had to skip the Falklands because of Covid!
