Shuttles into Town

Regent shows shuttles into town as a tour on their list of available tours for a port. Does this mean that you have to sign up for that “tour” in order to use a Regent shuttle to and from the dock? Or are there other shuttles that go back and forth from the ship to the town on some regular basis? Our plan on a couple of the ports is to use a Regent tour, then stay in town on our own, and then shuttle back to the ship. If not, then we will take a cab if necessary. Just curious on the shuttles.

Got my answer. Well, I read the full details of the shuttle “tour” on Regent and it does say: To visit some of the charming towns and picturesque locales we love, we sometimes need to dock or anchor a short distance away, requiring ground transportation to reach our desired destination. In these instances, we are delighted to offer complimentary shuttles as part of your all-inclusive experience. The complimentary shuttles run on regular schedules, which may vary with each port of call. If you need any additional information than what is provided during your cruise, please contact us at the onboard Destination Services Desk.

Most times they have one running from ship every 20-30 to 45 mins. Though it isn’t exact and it doesn’t always start as soon as the ship is cleared. Also some take a long lunch break like from 12 to 2

Like everything else not all ports have a shuttle even if the town center is a long walk.

We often times will book a tour that gets us into town as part of the tour and then when we have done what we wanted on the tour, leave (checking out with the guide) and do our own thing in town and make our own way back to the ship…. Usually by taxi since when we are ready to go the ship is not necessarily when the shuttle is. As with all things cruising be flexible. Your experience will be if it from it. 🙂

Shuttle services & their frequency vary from port to port

 - some shuttle services are run by Regent, some by the port authority

 - in some ports you are within walking distance of the town, so no shuttle required

 - in some ports the shuttle only operates from the ship to the port gate (safety reasons in industrial ports)

- sometimes shuttles are not provided because of pressure from local taxi drivers who do not want to lose trade.

Details of any shuttles available and the timetable will usually be available from Destinations the evening before port arrival
