martyap Posted September 13, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2023 I questioned Rome Cabs about a 7:45 pick up from the port in Civitavecchia, during the week to get to FCO for a 12:30 flight. This was their response. Your thoughts please. Dear Martin, With a 7:45 AM pick-up time from the port you would arrive at the airport around 8:45 AM which is almost 3.5 hours before the flight departure. Most cruisers plan to arrive at the airport no less than 2 hours before their flights, so your pick-up time is quite early. If you arrive too early the check-in counters for flight departures may not be open yet (that's what our clients told us when they arrived too early at the airport) Thank you very much! Kind Regards, The Romecabs Team
CruiserBruce Posted September 13, 2023 #2 Share Posted September 13, 2023 Unless something has changed, FCO is know for it's pretty serious inefficiencies. I would be there at least 2.5 hours ahead.
euro cruiser Posted September 13, 2023 #3 Share Posted September 13, 2023 It depends on where you are flying to. If it is a direct flight to the States or to Israel, the recommendation is three hours prior. If you will be flying to another country within the Schengen zone, or have a connecting flight that stops within the zone, then two hours prior is the recommendation. PurpleTraveller Posted September 13, 2023 #4 Share Posted September 13, 2023 It depends on where you are flying to. If you are flying out of Europe it is recommended to be there three hours before your flight. The queue for security can also be very long so plan to have plenty of time to get through. new_cruiser Posted September 13, 2023 #5 Share Posted September 13, 2023 Even though they tell you to be at the airport 3 hours before for international flights, I have had times when the check-in desk isn't open until closer to the flight. (That is most often the case for early morning flights or where the carrier doesn't have many flights out of that airport so they only staff the counter at times it's needed) However, you may be able to do electronic check-in and go straight to your gate if you don't have bags to check. If you feel more comfortable, go early and know you will have that extra margin in case of travel issues. I'd probably split the difference change to 8:15 so planned arrival is 3 hours before. But do what you are comfortable with.
