We heard there is going to be a 5k run on the day we get into JFK . Any suggestions on transportation from JFK to The cruise terminal. Last time we took an Uber but wondering if we should book something in advance. Thanks

A 3 mile race with the amount of routes available isn't going to make a bit of difference. There was a thread a few days ago about arriving on the day of the New York City Marathon which has the potential to be much more disruptive and with available routes there is no issue getting to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.

Uber or Lyft would be my preferred way of getting from JFK to Red Hook.

Actually the race (Tunnel to Towers) starts in Red Hook very near the cruise terminal and the race's website makes specific mention of substantial traffic delays due to the interaction of the ship's passengers disembarkation and embarkation.

The race starts at 9:30 am . Without knowing flight arrival time it's hard to make a recommendation .

I get that, but even then they go right into the Battery Tunnel. There shouldn't be any issue approaching the terminal in the early afternoon coming in from the Brooklyn Queens Expressway to the North onto surface streets. It's a little more circuitous than cutting through Brooklyn from JFK but it should avoid most of that until you are right at the terminal (assuming there is anything actually still going on from a race that starts at 9:30am going on at noon or 1pm).

If anything, if I were doing this, I would just plan to arrive a little later around 1-2pm to be sure.

Tunnels to Towers race uses the Hugh Carey/Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to run from Red Hook to the Twin Tower memorial (hence the name). Traffic will very much be impacted around the tunnel. One of the times to cross over from Manhattan via the Brooklyn Bridge or further north.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels today announced the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel will fully close to traffic on Sunday, Sept. 26, from 7:45 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. to accommodate the City’s annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run, commemorating the FDNY firefighter’s run through the tunnel to the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
