Has Anyone Else Noticed?

Has anyone else noticed how MSC casino employees walk around and cash out money people leave on the slot machines? They usually straighten chairs or pick-up garbage; but, they're also checking the balance on the machines. I've seen them do it and print out the voucher; I doubt they're putting it on the person's account. It gave me the idea to check machines and usually the amount is under a dollar; but, sometimes it's quite a bit more. That must add up to a lot of money for MSC fleet wide every year.

Please provide us with your observations and known related practices that might apply to the casino  so that we can understand your assumption of voucher mining and profit to MSC.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe that's all it is, it just seems MSC could do it differently so people don't accidentally leave money behind; I don't recall it being an issue on Carnival. I just thought this was a different topic than the usual threads that are repeatedly discussed.

Doesn’t the money go back to your room account on Carnival?  I don’t recall having printed out vouchers.

Hi! I think you create a casino account on Carnival when you insert your card into the machines and all your money goes into a bank. Then, every time you play you just insert your card and enter your pin number. I guess MSC is just behind the times using vouchers.

Machine next to me had a stuck voucher for $0.30. Yes I tried to get it but SOL.

An MSC casino worker opened the machine cleared it, took the voucher and shut down the machine and walked away

Now how are you telling me that this employee pocketed the voucher and did not just destroy it since it expires in 14 days anyway

It's single person since I assume that as in a land casino this employee does not have access to the cash box of the machine which in a land casino needs two people to get to the cash

What proof are you saying this employee then cashed the voucher within the 14 days. Can't do it at the cage so your saying he walked to the machine that cashes the voucher which has at least two cameras pointed at it?

I have a bridge here in Brooklyn I can sell ya.

No, that's not at all what I'm saying. I never said any employee is cashing vouchers. Maybe the vouchers are destroyed, either way if it's not being cashed within the 14 days it's money that isn't being paid out.

I guess I’m not really sure what you point it.
Sure it adds up for them.  I’ve sat down at a machine once or twice with a few cents left on it.  My last night I left one with money in it.
what do you think happens when someone buys a gift card and loses it. Or you have those apps to pay at a certain coffee place  and don’t have enough to buy a coffee. Companies do this all the time.
I’m not mad. When I leave that money I know someone’s getting it. I don’t care who. If you left a large amount.  Well. That’s on you.

I recently listened to a podcast that

talked about how Starbucks uses its pre-loaded payment app to make money. To my point, a significant amount of pre-paid money, like gift cards or preloaded apps goes unused.

Land casinos who do not give back change, some of them set up donation boxes for that less than a dollar vouchers.

That sounds like a good idea. I believe even Carnival donates money left by cruisers to St Jude if it's under some amount like $5, I'm not sure of the exact amount. Anything over that, they mail you a check.

But you have to "cash out" to your card on Carnival.  Othewise it stays in the machine. (Unless they changed it recently)

It seems my earlier post disappeared, not really sure why. Someone claimed the casino is operated by a third party, I don't know if that's true or not; but, I know MSC selects which slot machines are used and I don't know why they would use such an outdated method using vouchers that seem antiquated and costly with them needing to purchase voucher paper and needing to refill them; I guess I read between the lines.

Donations they make in their own name for both reputational and financial benefit. They claim the tax benefits of charitable donations.

I liked the fact I could print out the receipt and cash it out so I could get money  without having to charge to my credit card or withdraw from a foreign atm.

Now I didn’t love having a bunch of random  vouchers. I also like when it goes back on my card.

I mean - I don’t think they picked those machines for the sheer fact they can collect the extra vouchers. I don’t think MSC is any more or less greedy than any large cruise line.
