Athens ship to ferry?

We arrive back in Athens on April 25 and disembark the Infinity on the 26th. Next stop is Naxos and our hope is to take a ferry. Our TA cautions against doing that on disembarkation day because of the uncertainty about when we can leave the ship and making the ferry. It leaves around 0830 or 0900. We can carry our own bags off the ship. The TA thinks we should transfer to the Athens airport and fly to Naxos. I'm wondering if those with some experience think we should risk trying to make the ferry and avoid the airport and all that involves. Thanks.

If you are arriving on the 25th and overnighting onboard Infinity at Piraeus until the 26th your ship will clear Immigration upon arrival on the 25th and once that happens the gangway will be open 24/7 for you to come and leave. I think your TA is giving you the canned answer in case you were arriving the morning you wanted to transfer to a ferry.

You should be able to disembark any time in the early morning on the 26th and easily make the ferry as the ship will have already be cleared the day before.

When we went from ship to ferry (to Naxos) we found a ferry that departed Piraeus around noon.  That worked well in that we got a taxi to drive us around the harbor to our ferry area (across the street from the train station) and then found a coffee shop inside the port where we relaxed until boarding time.  A 9am ferry would be a huge gamble since you need some extra time for checking in and boarding.

As to the taxis at the port, while they do not want to take the short haul fare, money does talk.  Try 10 Euros, but be prepared to go higher if necessary.  We don’t mind the walk, but not doing it with luggage.
