Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted January 3 Author #151 Share Posted January 3 (edited) The Falklands We had good sunny weather but cold and windy . Were were on the 1st tender as suite guests , are prerered way of travel . Welcome to the Falkland Islands Our companions were also suite guests and we were 4 to a vehicle with Estancia . He did an outstanding job and told us how as a child , he was taken hostage at school by the invading Argentian troops during the Falkland War in 1982 . We caravanned with another vehicle from Estancia . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falklands_War Edited January 3 by scubacruiserx2
Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted January 3 Author #152 Share Posted January 3 (edited) The other vehicle was also filled from the 1st tender so we were off for a 2 hour trek to see the penquins . Pavement first , gravel second , rocks 3rd and then the bouncy part as we entered the farm full of grass , hills , sheep and dips . And finally , the farm with a necessary place with info on the penquins on the walls . People from the Star should be there now , even as I write . Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted January 3 Author #153 Share Posted January 3 The Kings , do not cross the rock boundry around the Kings or Gentoo as you may wind up in the Truck naughty room . We were some of the first people there . Don't forget your jacket in the truck , it was cold and windy . Syncronized snoozing Scratching

You don't have to pay them until you are where the penguins are , $ 200 cash p.p. and a box lunch included which is when we were paid . The last time they required pounds Sterling . Gentoo and chicks are next . 😊 Edited January 3 by scubacruiserx2
Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted January 3 Author #157 Share Posted January 3 We read that the tender operations didn't go well today and that a group went an hour early and wound up being up on the 13 th tender . They are still in port at least 1/2 late after being there 10 hours ! We still feel like reducing our time to 7 hours from 8 is ridiculous in a tender port . 😲
Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted January 3 Author #158 Share Posted January 3 Gentoos ! This lady had crossed the rock boundry line . We didn't see if she went to the naughty room as we were to busy taking photos . The Falklands is something to crow about ! Even for the chicks in the crowd . Note the sharp teeth on the bill for catching fish ( OR FINGERS THAT GET TOO CLOSE )

Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted January 4 Author #161 Share Posted January 4 (edited) Our driver asked if we wanted to go back a different way and we said sure . It's a good thing that we did .It was more scenic And a tourist had rented a car to DIY and got stuck . A local tried to help them and they both got stuck Our driver asked us to get out for safety and pulled them both out . Three vehicles in a row . No more adventure until we got to the city . 20,000 whales we killed by this gun The Whalebone arch to the church We wanted to have fish and chips and a pint here but went shopping instead A rainbow in the sky - God's promise never to destroy the earth by a flood again The next time that God destroys the Earth will be by fire the Bible says . We thought of that when we heard and saw the weapons of the RAF If you purchase anything in Pounds Sterling , you will receive change in the local currency , not accepted in the UK . The expedition ship was boarding also We prefered our enclosed tenders Edited January 4 by scubacruiserx2

Sorry about that . We are currently obsessed with our own trip . We did make it to the Hotel at 9 PM last night , 2 hours ahead of EST . A very long day yesterday . At the check in line with Aerolineas Argentinas , they made us change the weight and contents in all 4 bags . 1 overweight bag cost $100 . English is no longer the most common way of talking in the City of my birth , Miami , Florida . After take off all of the shades we pulled and everyone except the Americans went to sleep for most of the flight except meals . Lights on inside , but no open shades - weird to us . It is an adventure . One day to tour , today and board the Star tomorrow , we hope . .
Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted January 6 Author #166 Share Posted January 6 (edited) The down side to us doing this tour now is that we miss the nice weather at home . The day that we took the train to Miami it was in the upper 50’s at night and the low 70’s in the day , which we love . We set our AC at 68 F at night to sleep cool and well and drown out the new , loud neighbors . The AC here is anemic . When you set it for 19 C here is only reaches 22 C = 72 F after fixing it . The day temp here is like a Spring or a Fall day where we live - 86 F .We can’t wait to board the ship and go South for the Winter for some cooler temperatures tomorrow . This afternoon we hope to see an RCCL , MSC and our old favorite , the Celebrity Eclipse sail away this afternoon . We should see the NCL Star on the horizon at sunrise from our room . We are the only cruise ship tomorrow (to the best of my knowledge). Hopefully smooth sailing. Yesterday there were numerous complaints of 2 hour tender waits . They use a shuttle bus system at the port here . A bus brings people from the ship to the terminal and people embark to the ship normally . But now we don’t know, but will update when we find out.
