Rare Murt22 Posted March 7 #1 Share Posted March 7 What is the normal time that you must be on-board after excursions if the ship is scheduled to leave at 6pm?

Lots of variables, especially whether the ship is alongside or tendering. It is at the discretion of the Master, but is normally 1/2 hr when alongside and 1 hr when tendering. It is printed in the Viking Daily, but the definitive time is posted at the gangway.
CDR2001 Posted March 7 #3 Share Posted March 7 (edited) From my experience, if you are doing an independent shore tour, the company is aware of the back on board time. I confirm with them after checking at the gangway sign. Keep in mind that the times on your invoice are not set in stone. Rare CDNPolar Posted March 7 #4 Share Posted March 7 We never risk less than an hour before departure time. Not to confuse things, but you also have to know if time changes are in play, if you are talking about ship time vs. shore time. Is the ship adjusting time to the shore or keeping ship time. duquephart Posted March 7 #5 Share Posted March 7 You'd think ship and shore times would coincide.
Frenchberet Posted March 7 #6 Share Posted March 7 Figure 5 pm back on board for a 6 pm departure.

On our recent stop in Turkey the ship did not change time for one stop. They advised you to turn off auto update of time zones on your phone to avoid confusion. As OneSixtyToOne stated, we have had this too, and it was confusing. You really had to recognize the difference because with smartphones and watches, they often just automatically update depending on the settings you have open... so you have shore time on your wrist and in your hand as you look at your smartphone, but the ship is sailing away as you are running along the dock one hour late...
