toseaornottosea Posted April 2 #1 Share Posted April 2 Looking for a luxury hotel in Tokyo for pre-cruise stay. Suggestions welcome including best areas to stay.
Rare Gourmet Gal Posted April 2 #2 Share Posted April 2 We’ve enjoyed The Peninsula - we love their rooms and close to Ginza, Four Seasons Marunouchi - very close to Tokyo Station.
Rare Gilly Posted April 2 #3 Share Posted April 2 We have always enjoyed the service and the warm welcome at the Park Hyatt, Shinjuku, which is well connected for public transport and an elegant blend of Western and Japanese style.
fpat Posted April 2 #4 Share Posted April 2 I am deciding between the Mandarin Oriental and The Four Seasons.
calliopecruiser Posted April 7 #5 Share Posted April 7 I can't recommend a luxury hotel, but I do recommend staying near Tokyo station.
PoppyVelvet Posted April 27 #6 Share Posted April 27 Not sure exactly what you consider luxury but KEIO Plaza at Shinjuku is amazing, particularly if you book a club floor room (can’t remember if that’s the exact name). We’ve stayed at the Celestine in Kyoto and love it and there are two Celestines in Tokyo. One is at Ginza
Dobby36 Posted May 10 #7 Share Posted May 10 The Tokyo Station Hotel is local to Imperial Palace, (obviously the central train station also) and lots of other sights. It’s not modern, more of an old luxury or traditional Japanese feel, but we very much enjoyed.
Rare Hlitner Posted May 20 #8 Share Posted May 20 When we choose a hotel in any expansive city, like Tokyo, our primary issue is location. Once we decide on our desired neighborhood (we generally prefer Shinjuku in Tokyo) then we look at the various hotel options, the number of nights, our budget, etc. We agree with another poster that it is often the room category/floor that dictates the quality more than the hotel brand. Rare GeezerCouple Posted July 2 #9 Share Posted July 2 Any suggestions about luxury hotels in Tokyo (in town, not the outskirts/etc.) that are *not* on high floors? We found that many of those hotels are on the top floors of multi-purpose buildings. Suffice it to say that I have a dreadful fear of heights. While others may find the higher/highest floors most desirable, that does *not* include us (er, me). The hotel section doesn't need to be on the ground level or such, but "not high"! We had more difficulty with this in Tokyo than I remember having anyplace else. Thanks. GC
Dobby36 Posted July 2 #10 Share Posted July 2 The Tokyo Station hotel is no more than 4 floors or so. I think all the rooms are on 2,3,4. It is dwarfed by the high rises around it but it’s not too tall itself at all! For: @GeezerCouple

You would need to avoid hotels, that are on top of offices, malls, etc. Your post made me smile because the last time we stayed in Yokohama we stayed at a luxury hotel (Royal Park) where the lowest floor was over 50 stories up! I should add that it was an excellent hotel and our view was spectacular. DW and I had a good laugh thinking about how we would deal with a fire alarm...where we would have to evacuate down the steps. Hank
Rare love2crews. Posted July 13 #12 Share Posted July 13 I second the Peninsula. Beautiful rooms, excellent staff and service, and great location next to the train station.
