Rare ontheweb Posted April 13 #1 Share Posted April 13 We were recently on a Gate 1 Tulip Time cruise in the Netherlands and Belgium, and wondered if what happened on the menu was f;eetwide or just an anomaly. There were always 3 entrees listed, one meat, one fish, and one vegetarian. However, on 2 separate dinners, the fish dish also had meat. Not eating meat, this severely hampered our choices on those 2 dinners. For those who have been on other Gate 1 river cruises, is this how it always is? Rare JordanF Posted April 13 #2 Share Posted April 13 Nope. We were on Gate 1 last year on the Danube, and this was never an issue as I can recall, and I probably would as I like beef but not seafood.

After no more than 2 days in your situation I would have asked to speak to the chef.

I did write in my after cruise survey that it was a MAJOR problem.

However, I don't believe that waiting until the after cruise survey to say anything was the right way to go about it. As I said in the previous post, I would have arranged to talk to the chef.

Thanks, you're probably right, and if a next time happens, I will know better. At least with the survey, I did let them know it was a problem. And I emphasized MAJOR! I agree - talk in real time. Address these things with the Restaurant Manager or the Chef when they come up. On our preferred line, the Chef or Manager are always willing to cater to our needs - this is our experience anyway. If we approached and said that we did not want "something" served with "something" I believe that that would be noted on our account and the servers and the kitchen would know. On one of our tours of the kitchen, the Chef showed us where the dietary restrictions were managed and all the passengers with dietary restrictions or preferences were listed there on the board and the kitchen catered to these. Rare ontheweb Posted April 26 Author #8 Share Posted April 26 I e-mailed them from their website and received a response today. (They say it can take up to 14 days, but it only took 4 days. First, I started by saying I had enjoyed both our escorted tours and the river cruise we had just completed. I then told them of the food problem as I saw it. They did not answer my question as to whether it was like this fleetwide or just the ship we were on. But they did say they would look into it. And also that they welcomed constructive feedback from their guest. They also said they had never before had this complaint. They also gave us each a $50 credit. However, it is only good for a year and non-refundable.

I just checked the account, and I guess I misunderstood. It was a $50 credit total.
