Shipboard Credit Uses

I know we can use shipboard credits for shore excursions and the FAQ says we can use it to book services at the spa once we are on board and underway (ie can't book before cruise) .  We had an adjustment to our account due to a sale price shortly after booking and we have large shipboard credits on our account.  We have already paid in full for our upgraded beverage package and prepaid our gratuities.

My question is what else can we use it for

1) excursions - It clearly says we can use SBC for excursions but none of the remaining excursions appeal to us

2) premium bottles of wine ?   DW might get a bottle or two at best

3) Under way spa treatments (read another post saying the spa attendants fought the use of ship board credits for a massage)

4) Casino credit ?  the question was asked in another post but never answered.

5) merchandise at the various shops on board ? I believe they can be used in the shops but we really don't need any more jewelry, overpriced clothing etc..If it comes down to it we will spend it on gifts as they are non refundable at the end of the trip.

6) Future cruise booked on board ?

We booked via a travel agent and when I asked about retroactively applying the shipboard credit to the paid for gratuities & drink package they did not think that was possible and recommended I ask once we are on board. Note that these are not shore excursion credits which we still have some remaining.

Any help would be appreciated.

You don’t say how soon your cruise is? I think your TA is right about asking for the shipboard credit to be applied retroactively however if it was me I would be inclined to speak to Oceania prior to your cruise. I think they might adjust your account to include the beverage package and gratuities.

3. I think there would be an 18% charge on spa treatments as the spa is independent … I think!

4. As far as I know you can’t use SBC for the casino.

6. I don’t think you can use it against a future cruise.

SBC can be used for all the others.

“Shipboard credit is applicable towards onboard products and shore excursions. This includes shore excursions, private vans or cars during the cruise, La Reserve, Beverage Packages and Privée.
Shipboard Credit cannot be used towards spa reservations made directly with Aquamar Spa and Vitality Center. However, you may use your remaining shipboard credit towards a spa reservation when you arrive on board.”

On a recent cruise we had a large onboard credit in addition to the Simply More shore excursion credit.  There was nothing of interest to buy in the boutiques, but my wife found that you could use the onboard credits to buy products in the Aquamar Spa and they could ship them to your home address for a reasonable shipping fee ($8.95 in the U.S.).  The Aquamar Spa has a facility in the U.S. that takes care of orders that are shipped to your home.

We have had no problem using onboard credits at the spa even in combination with our Oceania Club $150 spa credits - just can't use the Oceania Club credits on spa special sales.

Did you ask about cancelling your prepaid grats and drink package instead? They are not listed in the cancellation section of the Guest Statement or Ticket Contract, but is there one on your invoice for these items? Other similar items have cancellations of 36 hours ahead or at-embarkation for 100% refund but without documentation, who knows.

I have never paid in advance for grats/bevvies, but I have paid in advance for shorex (without a package or above and beyond a package). In that case, the prepaid items (shorex) and any onboard purchases (drinks, spa, grats, etc.) show as a debit on my onboard account, then any OBC and credit card pre-payments show as credits. If I owe, it's paid with my credit card; if I have a credit, it is refunded to me (unless the balance is non-refundable OBC which it won't be since it is used-up first before refundable OBC (used 2nd) then real-money (credit card or cash)).

As an aside, when booking onboard (or FCC), the transaction is completely separate from you onboard account (i.e., the deposit will not show as a debit on your account and will be charged to your credit card directly).
