Rare Essiesmom Posted April 27 #1 Share Posted April 27 Not the itinerary I would have preferred, but solos can’t pick and choose. Sailing Seashore again on June 23, Ocean Cay and Mexico. Way below the salt this time…Bella OV gty. Chose OV and Bella was only option offered. But I love a gty booking, as I don’t care where I am. Might get upgraded to balcony, but I seldom use a balcony so it doesn’t matter. I’ll do another Live from when the time comes. EM
marti2282 Posted April 27 #2 Share Posted April 27 We’re looking at this sailing, too! Really want to see the updates to Ocean Cay.

Based on our "non-use" of many YC perks....our next MSC cruise may be "below the salt" too. Enjoy your cruise.......
Rare Essiesmom Posted April 28 Author #5 Share Posted April 28 It’s a medieval thing…Thomas B Costain wrote a book with that title, a historical time travel novel. It’s worth a read. It’s been more than 50 years since I read it. EM
Rare Eglesbrech Posted April 28 #6 Share Posted April 28 The below the salt comment caught my attention. Salt was an expensive commodity and a cellar was ceremonially placed on the long table. Those at the top of the table had flavoured food, fine white matchett bread etc.. Those below the salt had less fine food and were of a lower social station. There were also sumptuary laws which dictated which colours of cloth certain people could wear. Some colours of fabric were reserved for the “higher” classes.

Rare Essiesmom Posted May 5 Author #9 Share Posted May 5 It’s been so long since I read the book that I downloaded the kindle edition from Amazon for $.98. I keep checking the app to see if I have a cabin assigned. I was doing foolish things last night… I find I can do a 5 night on Valiant Lady, get off and get on Magnifica for 3 nights. The inconvenience of flights is the problem. It’s fun to play…. EM
Rare Essiesmom Posted May 13 Author #10 Share Posted May 13 Well, I played well today. I booked the Valiant Lady five day July 14-19. Get off Valiant Lady, travel down the pier and board Magnifica for 3 days. Below the Salt on both…tiny solo inside on Lady, Fantastica inside on Magnifica. I’m sailing for the ships, ports don’t matter. Next two cruises after these are on Carnival. EM

I’ll do another Live from, including Valiant Lady if there is interest. I was surprised it was affordable for me, but I booked the lowest cabin…their solo inside. And then immediately got an email to buy an upgrade to several levels, including solo OV for $90. Tempting, but I want to try the smallest first. Price includes drinks, WiFi, gratuities. I could come off with no bill at all. Might even have a drink. EM
Rare Essiesmom Posted May 13 Author #13 Share Posted May 13 Booked last night and this morning have an offer to bid for an upgrade. From OV to obstructed and junior balcony. I’ll pass for now. EM
Rare Essiesmom Posted May 24 Author #14 Share Posted May 24 Got my cabin assignment today for my June 23 sailing on Seashore. Booked Bella OV gty and got deluxe balcony BR3. Quite satisfied. Now that I have a cabin, they sent me the offer to bid for upgrade. Interestingly, YIN is less expensive than all categories except basic Aurea balcony. But I’m not biting. I have other plans for that money. Tomorrow I can do web checkin. I wonder if I can do it at midnight…? EM
