It is an excellent example of what is going on at Princess Cruises. The website and customer service appear to be inept at doing a proper job. Those wishing to continue on with the cruise get a free inside cabin &$200 OBC. Too good to be true. I just wanted to say thank you Dog for posting this... I am not at all disappointed as even with an inside cabin it's still a bargain to what we would have paid and on a new boat. Let's hope it goes... lol. Would I have liked to get what I originally booked... YES!, but am happy that they at least gave us an inside cabin instead of nothing. Yes, the drink package would have made it more palatable, but overall, I am still going. 7

We did one cruise in an interior and that was enough for us, lol. I realize that over the next year and five months the prices will probably go down so the cabin won't be as great a bargain as it seems now, but I'm betting that it won't end up under $630. Besides, we were able to snag one of the huge balconies in the front of the ship and if we waited those would be gone. Plus, by the time it's all said and done, we'll have $800 total in obc so we can make up for some of the loss of the premier package. So see you onboard!

I hope to meet you someday at a CC function. See you someday. I’ve flown over Greenland a few times- absolutely beautiful! One of those balconies will surely go up in price. These are more appealing to me than the layout of the mini suites and the PH suites in the SUN. 2

We are the ones that promote the cruiseline by being return guests and by word of mouth to our friends and family. Comp those once in awhile rather then sell, sell, sell, bloggers etc. Unfortunately, in this situation the forgotten few- those who cancel ( having to get over the threat of forfeiting our deposits) are not even given Good Will OBC.

I know a widow who cannot share a room with other people, so every time she is on a cruise, she has to pay for a single supplement, which usually ends up being double the amount. She doesn't gamble, so there is no way she is going to get a comped cruise. And she is just a regular working-class person; by no means is she rich, so she has never left North America in her lifetime. This was a blessing for her; now she can have a free room on the Star Princess and use the extra money to purchase an international air ticket and hotel in Barcelona. She is very happy that she finally has a chance to visit Europe. This October sailing fits her schedule very well too. It is in the middle of the off-season, so it's not difficult for her to get a week off from work. Air tickets are dirt cheap during that time frame as well. A round trip direct flight from LAX to Barcelona can be as low as $600. Without this "computer glitch," she may never have had this opportunity to have this life experience.

Start looking for excursions now though, because they are few and far between in the Greenland ports. And expensive.

I know many are upset like you about the Star and I understand that. With that being said, Princess actually did give good will. In the past when these mistakes happened on Princess and other lines, they were just canceled and all money was returned. In this case, Princess chose to give comped inside cabins with a chance to upgrade at a discounted price. Now it may not have included the premier or plus package, but it still was a comped cabin along with the deposit becoming OBC as stated for recognition of the inconvenience. Quite a few gambled and hoped it wouldn't be canceled but most, like me grabbing a cabin, knew it was more than likely a mistake. It was posted on here and on the roll call that they could cancel and refund even though cards were charged. It's what we agree to if mistakes are made. There are posters who are used to getting comped cabins, though probably not the reserve mini suites, but there are also many posters who don't get comped cabins or casino offers and hoped for the best. It's a cruise that was booked well over a year away on a ship that isn't even built yet. I'm sure over the 2 nights that it was booked that no one purchased their airfare nor paid for non refundable hotels yet. There was already the threat of forfeiting the deposit as it was payable in full and on non-refundable. Posters said it wasn't a lot and they were willing to lose it. The deposits became refundable and many have already gotten their refunds, though it may have taken a couple of calls or emails and was an inconvenience. It's huge disappointment which is understandable, but they are willing to still give comped cabins, though not the category booked. People were given a choice over a few days to decide what to do. I'm not a cheerleader as many call positive posters who stick up for Princess and will very readily admit when they screw up and they did. Heck, my flooded cabin a week ago on The Enchanted was not handled well AT ALL and I'm not going to blindly stick up for Princess ever. This booking situation was a massive mistake that may not have been handled in the best manner, but at least they tried to do something by offering comped inside cabins with the deposit becoming OBC with a few days to decide what booked people wanted to do whether it was to keep, upgrade and or get a full refund. The person that has been helping, Jenn Wright, really needs kudos as she has been very quick and responsive and shows the best side of a Princess employee. It's too bad that there aren't more like her. I truly hope you do get to sail one day on the Star and get the cruise that you really want at a fantastic price. Thank you for posting your original thread because it gave us all the chance, even fleeting to have booked a great deal. 14

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. I was referring to your comment that someone mentioned that you shouldn't have shared the original post about the offer. I meant at the same time you are going to have people also thanking you for sharing it with the community. You can't please everyone because everyone tends to have differing opinions.
dog Posted May 6 Author #114 Share Posted May 6 To the last 3 posters: thanks! 🙏 I have tried to keep things positive and hope that we learn from this thread. I have come around to agree with most of what Host has said. I personally have had more then my share of annoying issues over my correspondence with Princess over this past year- D0-aft with signature benefits, refunding wrong amounts split between 2 credits, etc. I did not expect the free inside cabin, but I did expect my deposit back as Princess has caused chaos in many of our lives. Their mistake - yes, and one too many. Jen Wright has been offering excellent support to many of us over this weekend. I am travelling and logging off- really, this time. Host - thanks for closing and opening the threads. dog. Gone
mgcharleston Posted May 6 #115 Share Posted May 6 For anyone who booked the original offer and has since rebooked it accepting the the terms of their deal, can you see your $200 OBC on your new itinerary? I rebooked just now and told the girl on the phone about the promised $200 OBC/person and she acknowledged that but when I look at my itinerary (under the Payments page, OBC at the bottom of the page) its says $0. I'm thinking I am going to have to call them back. FWIW, I wrote the illustrious Jen Wright yesterday afternoon and never heard a word back, hence forcing me to call in. Just curious if the OBC is showing in other peoples accounts.

But if I don't require an upgrade, do I still need to rebook? I am a bit confused now largely due to the poorly written Friday evening email. ProfMHC Posted May 6 #117 Share Posted May 6 Look instead on your travel summary page. Ms. Wright told me it was there but handled a bit differently. It also shows up at the bottom of “extras”
ProfMHC Posted May 6 #118 Share Posted May 6 Everything should still be fine. Look at your documents re the booking number for cruise and verify. If it still says guaranteed interior you might wish to call and see if they can assign a cabin.

PS the $200 OBC (that was also part of the original deal) will only be available on-board, meaning you can't use it ahead of time for an excursion, etc. but once on-board you can use it as credit.
