When Covid started, the gel used had to have a high alcohol content as apparently this does kill the virus.

Much to my disappointment, the consumption of alcohol is not considered to have the same effect.🙃

Oh it must do surely!!

Couldn''t agree more.  Both Covid and Noro are "viruses".  The handgel is anti-bacterial and of no use at all with those two illnesses.

SARS-COV-2 and the Norovirus family are both RNA viruses but, hand gels containing 60% or more alcohol are very effective against SC2 but have 0% effect on Norovirus. Norovirus has evolved to survive the human gut so a little bit of alcohol will do nothing.

SOAP denatures viruses more effectively than alcohol hand sanitiser.

Absolutely! Unfortunately, hand washing facilities in restaurants are few and far between on cruise ships…

Neither soap nor alcohol destroys norovirus, unless the soapy water is above 60c which would scald your hands.

Washing your hands properly with soap and water simply removes the norovirus from your hands, but the important bit is properly, and not just showing them the to the tap.

On Iona they are at every entrance to the buffet and also to the Quays. That said we saw hardly anyone washing their hands on either of our two cruises recently.

I'm a drinker, NEVER had covid. I think that's the reason. Even slept in same bed as someone with covid; never got it. The WHO needs my antibodies.

Royal Caribbean have always had the right approach to this. One single entrance to the buffet restaurant with multiple sinks, and then not only a couple of people singing songs about washing your hands but staff there to prompt anyone that tries to sneak in.

Arvia is a maze of entrances and exits to the horizon and 1 sink at each with nobody there to monitor hand washing.

They have this on many cruise lines and many people still walk past. The crew cant make anyone wash their hands there.
