How's your luck with guarantees?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to book a balcony guarantee and I've read most comments on them. Personally, I've looked at the deck plans and I have to choose between rms xyz and rms abc and I'm just not familiar with the positioning of these rooms on the ship, 'specially since this is my 1st cruise icon_confused.gif

My ? is -- for people who have booked guarantee rooms, how has your luck been? Stuck in a crappy room? What can you do if that happens? I've also heard people have been upgraded to better decks..is that the norm or do you sometimes just luck out?

Well, you cant really get a "crappy" room...you will never get less than what you asked for. If you booked a balcony guarantee, your room will be great no matter what. There really arent differences in rooms that are in the same catagory except their position on the ship. for instance a 4a is the same as a 6a, just lower on the ship. The only thing that may be considered "crappy" would be a room at the very front or very back of the ship. That could happen - but if its a balcony, I wouldnt complain!!

We almost always book a guarantee and we've never been unhappy with out stateroom location. One time they placed us right under the aerobics studio - the "step classes" eliminated afternoon naps from our schedule. icon_frown.gif But we loved being on the Verandah Deck, upgraded several categories.

Our guaranteed staterooms are always forward or aft - never mid-ship. We prefer a quiet location, so that works for us (and the extra walking helps work off the buffets). We've never been upgraded into another stateroom type, unless going from an 8A to a 9A counts.

If location is important to you, book an assigned stateroom.

We were upgraded from a gty. interior to a ocean view with two port holes in the front of the ship. Loved it, room U10 on the Inspiration. Last cruise we booked gty. ocean view and got a great cabin with a balcony on the Glory in the rear of the ship. Loved it. As long as you are happy with what you book any thing better is better. Right?

We booked our first guarantee for our last cruise on the Miracle this past April. We booked a 7A guar and were upgraded to an 8H, midship and right underneath the lido buffet. The location couldn't have been any better. However, I do think I ate a lot more being so close to the food! We were quite please and have booked another balcony guar on the Glory for next year.

I've done guarantees a couple of times. First time was really close to the cruise - booked a 4A and got a 4A. Had a family of four. The second time was a bit more successful. Only two of us were going and we weren't picky. We booked a 1A and was bumped to a 4C. Again we booked within two months of the cruise.

Personally I like to book a specific cabin. I love the quiet balconies.

I've heard of some terrible experiences for those who had cabins over the discos. Little noisy.

Good luck. And most of all, have a blast!

We sailed on the Pride in September of 2002. I booked a 4A. We were delighted to end up with a 6A. We were on the same deck, just got an outside instead of inside. It was midship, right by the elevators. No problems with noise.

I'm just curious ... I've read here that ppl have been bumped from an oceanview to a balcony. How far in advance were these cruises booked. Does that make a difference? I've booked a guarantee OV on the Holiday 8/28/2004 cruise. I just did it yesterday. Do ya'll think I have any chance of getting a balcony? Wouldn't really matter, I'm just happy to be cruising ... just curious. Thanks for your help and happy cruising!!!

First cruise we were moved from a 6a to a 6d (I think) well from the bottom deck to the Empress deck.

Would you know if there is a greater chance of getting a better upgrade if the ship is sold out, or is there less of a chance? I would think if everyone chooses the lower (cheaper) rooms, then our changes of getting an awesome upgrade would be better???

Out of 8 cruises we have only been upgraded twice and both times it was within the same catagory. On the Serenade of the sea we booked a balcony guar. and got a stern cabin with an awesome balcony. On our Miracle cruise I booked an 8a and we will be sailing with an 8g so I am happy with that. Joan
