OBSERVATIONS FROM THE POOP DECK SEASCAPE JULY

Yes sounds great we are suffering withdrawal symptoms until our next YC voyage at end of Aug. So, being a self confessed YC addict have booked a another YC adventure for 2026 this time on Virtuosa to Canaries , Madeira Spain and Portugal.

Yes. Bumped into a couple we ran into on the Explora 1 this past Dec/Jan. Finding so many similarities with likes and dislikes They were not impressed with Cunard Queen's Grill. So we just contacted our travel agent to cancel our future Queen Elizabeth Grand Suite and booked another Yacht Club for the same date on board. One just cannot compare the royal treatment with the other top suite we have already taken with Yacht Club.

Thank you for the continuous great information and insight! I was on the Seascape last week and my son in law had a drink called the Godfather at the TSL. Would it be possible for you to ask the bartender what the recipe is? I have looked up recipes on line but they all differ somewhat and he really enjoyed the one served at the TSL. Thanks!

I hope I don't get your butler.  Then again, if the Butler is MIA, so is his tip.  Or rather it stays in my pocket.

He was great the first few days and then we hardly saw him. I tipped a C note on day 2 and none at the end. We were in 3 cabins and the butler from one of the other cabins escorted us off the ship. Oh, our assistant butler did a great job on the room.

@morpheusofthesea  LCR - Are reservations required or do we just try and show up as early as possible?  Is deck six better than deck 5 for seating if we want to sneak out early?

FCFS. Performances are continuous from 7:30pm to 11:00  pm (then there are glow type parties after with DJ. Seats 450 guests but only 150 are good viewing. Only one entrance deck  7 through tunnel, then 2 lower levels of seating. If one wants to be part of the entertainment choose a seat lower level around dance floor. We love the higher level around the railing. We get there early to get our favorite seats at 7pm. First night is empty and the best night for entertainment of Chora Theatre singers (2).

On our Divina cruise we met our butler on the first day. I asked him to make two reservations for us - a lunch in Galaxy and dinner at Buther's Cut and told him the days that I wanted.  Also informed him of a couple of other things.

He asked what time we would be having dinner and we informed him, expecting him to stop by and escort us to Le Muse on the first night as he had heard was the normal process.  Our dinner time came and went and no sign of him.  So we went on our own.

We saw him the next morning and he let me know that our reservations had been made.  We went to Galaxy at the time we requested and found the restaurant to be closed.

He did stop by and escort us to our Butcher's Cut dinner.  That was the last we saw or heard from him until the night before disembarkation.  He stopped by as we were talking with the two bartenders in the passage way near our cabin.  He was all smiles and everything.  We did not see him the next morning and was escorted off the ship by another butler.

Thank you.  We will check it out on the first night.  To get there at 7 pm means we either eat earlier or later than normal.   I think I'll opt for later seating and then we can just walk downstairs and finish our night relaxing in the TSL.

I look forward to the continuing of your journey.

This is something new and not well received by us. We do not eat from self service buffets. The work around has been that there has always been at least one restaurant, MDR or Specialty restaurant open for lunch everyday. Just spoke with the Specialty Restaurant manager and beginning this week no restaurants will remain open Ocean Cay Day on the ship. This leaves room service or the One Pool grill. I guess this is just another case of the numbers outweighing the convenience to the passengers staying on board the ship. ( We have already had the lovely experience of dining at Ocean House, but this being the summer in the Caribbean and there are only 3 tables inside the air conditioned Ocean House, we opt to return to the ship for lunch).

We began the restart of cruising with the only cruise line willing to do so, Celebrity. The new Edge with a capacity of thousands only had 600 of us daring souls on board and astounding as restart was they had every venue open. The numbers did not outweigh the complete enjoyment of the very few passengers on board.

Will made-to-order items still be available from One Pool? You might need to bring stuff back to your cabin to eat away from the heat. I'm sure one of the pool butlers could assist you with that.

The change is disheartening, though. 😞

* MSC was the first to restart cruises in August, 2020 in the Med.  Celebrity restarted in June, 2021 by subverting US rules and sailing from St.  Maarten.  But I am surprised MSC didn't think about it to capture the anxious US market.

To me, I would not accept this behavior from our butler.  I would go to the concierge or head butler and let them know that they were no existent.

I agree, this is disheartning.  I hope they get a lot of negative feedback about this decision and it changes between now and September, although I doubt it will.

I am sure we will not starve but I had looked forward to eating onboard during our stay at Ocean Cay as doing a B2B we will be there twice.

It was our first cruise with MSC and we were not sure what to really expect.  I made the decision to just let it go and not really worry about it.  It did not really affect our cruise as we really don't rely on a butler to do very much for us.  Hopefull next time ours will be more present.

Sorry. You are correct as usual. But just like my posting everything revolving around Yacht Club here, when I get carried away placing a post about YC on a thread about steerage, I am called a hijacker. When it comes to my world of cruising I only think about what ships sailing out of Miami or Port Everglades.

We passed through a rain shower this morning before getting to Falmouth. The cushions were drenched on the One Pool deck. Our pool attendant rushed over to our pergola and pointed out he just switched out our cushions for dry ones from a storage room. He was carrying a pile of fresh blue towels and said to give him 15 minutes to prepare the pergola. I tipped him $10. I went back to cabin to dress in my cabana attire.

We usually look forward to the lunch on Ocean Cay. We get there early to get a table in the back with a view of the water (though not sure with the new and expanded table area if that's what we'll still want). It's one of the only times that we leave the ship and we do like having the different menu as a nice change from the Top Sail Restaurant. Of course, if the weather is iffy having the option of a specialty restaurant was always something we thought we could fall back on. Let's all put comments in the feedback. Maybe we can at least get them to make some type of accommodation for YC?

Cross your fingers for rain on Ocean Cay day? Then they will serve the Ocean House menu in the YC restaurant, and your quirky issue will be solved.

We have enjoyed that outcome in the past -- but non-YC guests were mutinous. 😞

If this expands to a closure on port days in general, maybe your suite on Queen Elizabeth will still be available.

You’re good. Real good.

Now I understand where the hot plate notion pops into innovative minds.

It is nice that every time we come back there are different acts. Even the Chora Theatre cast changes. Tonight there is a different comedian. Le Cabaret Rouge is filling up tonight, it’s becoming discovered.
Waiters complaining the butlers are not doing a better job informing guests that there is a YC buffet on the One Pool deck especially on embarkation day. There are 330 guests this cruise and 185 seating capacity in the YCRestaurant and everyone wants to eat at the same time. The flip side is that the butlers have the task of waiting on guests eating at the YCBuffett.

Based on your extensive experience is it better to try and dine early or dine later?  We normally try and arrive for dinner around 1830 as that is generally the time we eat dinner at home.  We can be flexible on that if needed.  If we attend any of the production shows, it is usually the later one but we can also be flexible in that regard.

It depends who is on board. In polite conversation with our Maitre d' this evening he said that we have mostly Europeans on this cruise and they all come at 7:45 pm late for both the waiters and the kitchen staff and they are overwhelmed. We come first thing at 5:45 and are served rather quickly. It gives us time to catch the first performances in Le Cabaret Rouge at 7:30. The resident host singers pick really terrible songs to sing, not of our generation, and not even popular to the average cruiser. This cruise the best performers are the BB Jazz Quartet. Every song in each of their sets is a popular American standard. (See video clip below).  Like Georgia on My Mind, Route 66, As Time Goes By, Cry Me a River , Fly Me to the Moon and a popular Brazilian favorite The Girl from Ipanema. This cruise they started each evening at 10:15 with two 45minute sets. There are other venues to check out. The comedians have been terrible.

It should be as simple as one part scotch to one part amaretto, BUT this may interest everyone... https://cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/2023/04/cunard-reveals-why-chocolate-tastes-better-at-sea/?feed_id=2358&_unique_id=64307c875311f

Professor Spence, a gastrophysicist from the University of Oxford, said that food and drink taste better when having a good time. This is known as the ‘Provencal rose paradox’ which, according to Spence, everyone has experienced at some point in time.

“It relates to the fact that food and drink seem to taste so much better when we are on holiday, whether this is with our family in the Mediterranean, or traveling solo with the sun on our backs,” said Spence.

“So nice in fact, that we are even tempted to buy a few bottles of that same holiday wine, to bring back home and share on a cold winter’s evening. Only it never tastes the same; it is disappointing somehow.

“The reason is that when we are on holiday, we are likely to be relaxed and in a better mood, and food simply tastes better when we are in a better mood. Given that people don’t often cruise for work, they are likely to be happy and relaxed on their cruise hence making food and drink taste better.”
