Drink package/internet questions

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve been on a carnival cruise. I plan on buying the cheers drink package, I understand it’s 15 drinks per day, are there any other drinks I can use this on like specialty coffees or energy drinks/ dessert drinks etc besides the alcoholic and soda drinks? Any tips/ tricks on getting the most out of this if you don’t plan on drinking 15 alcoholic drinks per day? I’m going with a friend in the same stateroom that drinks heavy so we want to do this package.

Also as far internet- do I have to do a full weeks work or can you buy per day (24 hour) like Royal Caribbean? Only want this to be able to use fb message or FaceTime to call back home, don’t need anything fancy.

Thanks in advance!

Very easy to get your money's worth without getting close to 15 alcoholic drinks if you take advantage of the coffee, smoothies, milkshakes, soda, powerade, bottled water, sparkling water, etc. Also if you space out your alchohol consumption throughout the whole day (mimosas, bloody marys, spiked coffee and such in the morning) not to mention you are on vacation and no one is going to bat an eye if you have a pina colada before 10 am LOL.

As far as tips/tricks for getting the most out of Cheers:

Sea days you should have no problem getting your money's worth even if you only get a drink every 1-2 hours starting around lunchtime. Port days have a drink with breakfast or grab a specialty coffee, then grab some bottled water or whatever to take off the ship with you. Even if you are off the ship the entire 8-9 hours it's in port (which is unlikely for most people) that still leaves the whole evening and at least some of the afternoon. Swing by the bar once back on board to grab a drink on the way to your room or sailaway or whatever, depending on time another to enjoy while you get ready for dinner. We always stop by a bar on the way to dinner and carry in with us, that way you aren't stuck waiting on drink service in the dining room which usually seemed to take awhile. When the bar server comes by go ahead and order something if you think you will want it, odds are it will take a bit for it to arrive. Same thing for after dinner activities, grab a drink before going into a show, the casino, or whatever, service can be slow during those. Something for a nightcap to take back to your room at the end of the evening if you want, and a bottle of water or powerade for through the night or first thing in the morning.

Don't let the people who say Cheers is a waste of money on port days scare you, they only look at it as getting their money's worth by thinking they will have to get most of their 15 drinks in a 3-4 hour period in the evening (which I don't recommend attempting LOL) which is just not the case.

Other tips:

Don't be afraid to try new drinks, if you don't like it you won't feel so much like you have to finish it so you aren't wasting money. For that matter if you aren't all that big of a drinker don't feel like you have to finish any of your drinks (sacrilege to some, I know🤣), if you only want to enjoy half or less then move on to something else, go for it. Since your friend is a heavy drinker they may appreciate you not finishing them and they'll take one for the team and do it for you if it's something they like LOL.

Don't be shy about specifying a higher quality liquor in your cocktails, almost all will still fall under the $20 limit for a Cheers drink.

Keep in mind if you do feel the need to maximize the number of alcoholic drinks, not all are created equal. Drinks with higher alcohol content and/or liquid volume will make it much more difficult to consume more if you get too drunk or your stomach too full. Things like glasses of wine, rum and coke, whiskey and coke, etc are much easier to have more of than something like big frozen drinks or pint glass sized cocktails. Trying to down 15 Long Island Iced Teas in a day is going to end in disaster for nearly anyone LOL. Also it doesn't take nearly as many higher end cocktails to break even cost wise as it does beer.
