Carnival Sunshine Port Charleston hurricane Debby

Recommended Posts

My cousins are currently on Sunshine heading for Bahamas.  They are being told most probably not returning Thursday as planned.

Passengers have been communicating with each other and sharing info on having their vehicles towed from the Port parking.  I've been able to contact the tow company they are all using and they will be picking up their car tomorrow and taking it to higher ground.

FYI to anyone who has friends or family on this cruise

The port of Charleston will almost certainly be underwater, so good call to those moving their cars from the parking lots. I imagine much of Downtown Charleston will be underwater later this week.

We briefly visited for the first time on an east coast road trip last month. I can see why the cruise port (and Carnival) is being evicted. Highest and best use it isn't with all the fancy new development.

And I agree. That surface lot will be 6 feet under.

I am on the Sunshine right now and have heard no such scuttlebutt. In fact the Carnival hub app is asking people to do the digital disembarkation routine now for Thurs.

And having a car towed tomorrow will do little since Charleston has been inundated with rain for hours now today.

Here is a website to view the harbor area live:

https://webcoos.org/cameras/nwlon_charleston/

Nothing looks flooded as of yet, but I don't have a crystal ball.

At this point all we can do is hope for the best.

One last thing... The port folks parked the vast majority of us on a higher elevation lot Saturday, I would assume in preparation for the storm.

Fingers crossed. 🤞

I don't know about 6 feet but some folks will have soggy floor mats when they get back. I remember earlier this year the cruise port flooded and they got nowhere near as much rain and wind then as is being predicted with Debby.

Yea a car lot in the area was hit and a bunch of their cars were sold with salvage titles. On the outside they all looked brand new, and it was all because of flood damage. There was an old news story with a helicopter flying overhead and you could see the roof of the vehicles all submerged.

Charleston floods during even the slightest rain.  Here's the Weather Channel's video.

Curfew extended to Wed.  Garages were opened to locals so they could move cars to higher ground.  They said by Tues morning there was already a foot of water, roads into the town were barricaded.  Streets turned to rivers.  Good luck to all of you.

Carnival is now saying that embarkation will be delayed by 7 hours.  I hope the debarking passengers don't have any issues with their vehicles.

PORT OF CHARLESTON

  • Carnival Sunshine 08/03/2024 – The ship is expected to dock in Charleston early tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, August 8, 2024.

  • Carnival Sunshine 08/08/2024 – We plan to operate this voyage as scheduled, with modified embarkation plans. Given the ship’s delayed return to Charleston, guests are being asked to delay their terminal arrival appointments by seven (7) hours (for example, 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM appointment will become 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM).  All guests must be on board by 9:30 PM. Thanks for your patience and understanding. To stay up to date, please sign up for text alerts by texting CCL5 to CRUISE (278473).

@jsglow are you an appraiser, by chance?  Your reference to “highest and best use” made me wonder.

Successfully got cousin's car towed as it was ground level parked in handicap parking lot.  They came in to port Thursday for 1 p.m.

Owner of tow company was shuttling passengers to his lot to pick up their vehicles.

My cousin said it was worth the money for piece of mind to not lose her barely one year old vehicle.

Tow company actually dropped their day rate for passengers on the ship
