Post Cruise - Athens, cont

After our fill-day tour, we checked into the Athens Gate for our last night of this grand adventure! But wait! We’re not done yet. Months ago, I made reservations for the hotel’s rooftop bar for dinner at sunset, and then we ventured into the Plaka to visit Geros Tou Moria Restaurant for after dinner drinks, dessert and good Greek music.

The biggest piece of baklava I’ve ever had. And, no, I couldn’t finish it.

You didn’t say much about the new ship.

Did you not enjoy it or was it just a means of transport to get you around the Med’?

I really enjoyed the ship! Will post about her later. Thanks for hanging in there.

Thanks again for taking us along.  A year ago we did Athens before a cruise (and going back again next summer!) and stayed at the Athens Gate.  Looks like you saw a lot in your one day of sightseeing!

We too enjoy the ship. I would not hesitate to sail the Sun again and we are in November 2025. We got off in Athens on Saturday and spending 5 days in Athens before our enjoyable 10 hour flight home.

So, finally, my last post about the trip as we are now home safe and sound.

The ship - Sun Princess

I’m easy to please and, overall, I loved her. I missed the grand and elegant piazza that you get in the Regal and Majestic, but liked the addition of rows of chairs. I didn’t like the choppiness of the layout, as I always felt I was at the end of things when I came to the elevator/stairs, but then found a pathway around. I missed having the International Cafe on the Piazza, since it was nice to be able to grab a snack there; I don’t see the point in having it next to the buffet. I didn’t like the relocation of the buffet to several floors down from the Lido. Really, that’s all I’ve got. I’m looking forward to my next Princess cruise, which will once again be on Majestic.

Thanks for following along.

I’m very excited to follow along. We are doing this cruise next May. We have never been to any of the ports and are spending a few days before and after to explore. We will be celebrating our 25th anniversary. Looking forward to your review.

@lennythenose, is that the May 3rd - 10th trip?

Cruise Day 1 - Civitavecchia

We arranged private transportation thru Rome in Limo to bring us to the part; arrived at 10:30 and we were on board by 11:00. Quick and easy.

We’ve wondered around a bit and I took a few random pictures with no real goal in mind, and made no real note of what was where. Pretty useless for your purposes, I guess, but I might as well post a few anyway.

The room looks very nice! We'll be in 16604, just a short distance down and to the port side. It definitely looks nicer than what we had on the Caribbean Princess, but then she's also more than 20 years old...
