  1. Amazon sells a variety of cruise- compatible power strips, I got one for our recent cruise, they have both outlets and USB ports on them. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=cruise+ship+power+strip&crid=HTO48WZQ7A46&sprefix=cruise+ship+%2Caps%2C161&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_3_12
  2. The banana hammock, perhaps?
  3. As long as you don't look like Tim Curry in Rocky Horror Picture Show you'll be fine...
  4. If you bring any kind of power strip/distribution device make sure it's not surge protected...
  5. I think it varies from ship to ship. When you call room service to set it up you can customize your meals.
  6. @karatemom2, I surprised my wife on our first Princess cruise last December. It was AWESOME, the best $110 I have ever spent. For the main course we each received a filet and 2 lobster tails - they said it was because they were small, but I thought they were decent-sized. That along with all the apps, sides and dessert. We had 2 guys taking care of us, plus a photographer. One bit of advice - do not eat anything until dinner, otherwise you'll have a ton of food left over!
  7. Oh, they have them alright - they're called passengers....
  8. I think the ones they give you at Olive Garden would be perfect!
  9. While we're off-topic, any good travel references for someone going to London for the first time? I'm taking the wife there next year, it will be our first journey across the pond...
  10. You say that like it's a bad thing...😆
  11. I always get a kick out of reading these types of threads. My wife and I are newbies when it comes to cruising, we've only done 3 of them, 2 before Covid with Royal Caribbean, and 1 this past December on Princess. I don't have any historical baseline to compare today's cruise experiences with the days when Captain Stubing was on the bridge. I do understand that things change, and sometimes not for the better. On our trip aboard the Caribbean Princess we thought everything went pretty well - smooth embarkation, great service, food, etc. I just feel extremely fortunate and blessed that, in this world where many people are homeless, hungry, and suffering the effects of conflict that I have the means and ability to enjoy these vacations. Steak not that tender, lobster tails a bit small? Meh...
  12. Both of them, Steamers and the BBQ place (the name escapes me)
  13. We were on board the Caribbean Princess last December, and walk-ups were not accepted. You had to call a certain number onboard to make a reservation.
  14. We used Princess for pre-cruise accommodations this past December for our cruise out of PE, they put us up at the Westin at Ft. Lauderdale Beach. I wasn't that all impressed - for the money they charged I expected a room with a view of the ocean, not the pool storage area. The pool was closed for a private event, and there are no decent restaurants within walking distance - the restaurant on the premises didn't have anything we liked, and was very expensive. Next time we'll get a hotel that offers courtesy transportation from the airport, and just do an Uber to the port the next day.
  15. We were on this ship last December. No enforcement noticed, pretty much anything goes. You'll be fine as long as you don't look like Tim Curry in Rocky Horror...
  16. Reminder to self - never EVER book a cruise ship until it's been in service at least a year.
  17. Another reason to admire the sensibilities of our friends down under.
  18. I would in a heartbeat. Also, when searching and comparing prices on cruises I would like to see all the cruise lines list the "out the door" total price (taxes, fees, etc.) so that one knows the exact price per person, instead of having to dig in 2 or 3 levels of the web page to get to the bottom line. Some airlines also play the same stupid games. When you use a search engine like Google Flights, Matrix ITA, etc. it will show their lowest fare, but when you go to their website you find out that it's actually what I call steerage - no carry-on bag, no choosing seats beforehand, etc. which for us is not an option.
  19. Our trip aboard the Caribbean Princess last December was our first with PCL, having been only on Royal Caribbean in the past. When we were on Allure OTS several years ago we made a stop at their private enclave at Labadee, Haiti. It was OK, but nothing to write home about. We planned on our recent trip to stay aboard the CB while at Princess Cay but unfortunately the water was too rough for the tenders.
  20. Ahhh, nothing like the topic of tipping to get the masses riled, it ranks right up there with MDR dress codes and people who play the towel game with the deck chairs! The wife and I like to drink on our vacations, and I also enjoy my coffee and cappuccinos in the morning, so we usually do a Plus or Premier package anyway. Since CA is already included it's sort of a non-issue for us. But I totally understand the frustration it generates. As a (much) younger man I worked a second job hustling for tips as a server in a restaurant so my wife could be a stay-at-home mom. Now that I have the means to travel, for which I'm extremely grateful, I don't mind paying the extra amount, and I always give extra to our room attendant and MDR server (if we have the same ones each night). Most of the crew that work so hard to make our cruises memorable will never be in my shoes.
  21. Yes, you're overthinking it. As karatemom2 said, it's a great feature for all the reasons she listed. The picture is so that employees will recognize you when interacting at bars, restaurants, getting off and on the ship at stops, etc. And at many places when you disembark they use facial recognition, no need to stop and talk to a customs and immigration officer.
  22. I have a car, and I've already arranged to have the day off from work, and my wife works mornings so we'll be able to move around a little.
  23. We're cruising to our back yard, the path of totality is coming right through our area....
