Sunday at sea

The ship was rocking and rolling again and was too much for a lady at art class-she retired to her cabin

I decided to go to the insight lecture in the theatre 12.15 on the Vikings-very interesting and made note to attend last one on next sea day.

I had lunch in the Golden Lion then back to cabin where found 6 snoring.

I sat out on balcony watching the waves until decided to go to afternoon tea at 3

I went early to make sure got a seat.

Roaring twenties night was gala dinner tonight and many dressed up

Afterwards we had a wander round ship calling in at violinist

In lobby, group in Queens room before ending up in Commodore club for the night.

Monday Rotterdam

I went for my second massage 10am then had lunch on ship before catching free shuttle into Rotterdam

This was a familiar port as we had visited end May on MSC with daughter, son in law and 2 grandaughters.

We had taken pushchair off ship so were a bit limited and just wandered round waterfront where found a small play area.

However if we had known how close to centre was over the bridge we would have explored further.

I got on the shuttle bus outside ship 12.25 and it was less than half full.

We were dropped off close to train station and there was a long line of people waiting to get back to ship

I walked round the area to take photos of cube buildings and the market hall

Inside the market were lots of food stalls and souvenir shops  but most interesting was the decorated ceiling

I got some gifts for the granddaughters and decided to walk back to the ship

The large bridge beside which the ship was docked was a good direction indicator visible over the rooftops.

The main danger was avoiding trams and bikes!

I followed route by maritime museum with large exhibits outside and found way to the large bridge.

1.30 there was an announce, ment that the bridge would be closing to allow a section to elevate and let through a tug pulling a large crane

That was a tourist attraction in itself

I was back on ship by 2pm

I had noticed groups of people being escorted around the ship in the morning-as this was Queen Anne inaugural visit to Rotterdam there had been a plaque presentation.

Originally we were supposed to sail 11.30pm but because we had missed Skagen we were going to be in port overnight. This gave people the opportunity to sample the night life of Rotterdam

The dining room was pretty quiet!

I retired early but 6 stayed out on balcony watching people going to and from ship

All very civilised-no signs of drunken revelry.

Tuesday at sea

I awoke 6.30 and realised ship was moving.

It was a fine sunny day and I remembered it was a long scenic route to the open sea

So I got up and surprised 6 at breakfast

I had wanted to book a next cruise on board for the extra OBC but 6 took too long to agreewith me so all appointments were taken till end of cruise

I was told desk would be open 7.30 till 9.30 on disembarkation day but no use to us as we would need to be off ship first thing to catch coach.

I was advised to check back later in day in case any appointments opened up.

We spent most of the morning up on observation deck 14 to take in views until we were out in open sea.

I went along to the 2nd lecture on Vikings and discovered how 1066 could have turned out much differently for William the Conqueror if events had played out a little differently.

Certainly gives the words family feuds a whole new meaning.

We had lunch at pavilion café and listened to Captains noon address before heading back to cabin

6 to rest and me to collect my art kit for the 2pm art class

I passed by shore bookings to ask if any appointments had opened up.The lovely lady there was about to go on her break but because I knew exactly what I wanted she booked me onto Iceland and British Isles 3 August next year with $1200 OBC and a low deposit of £175pp

4pm it was time to pack as quickly as possible before heading for final meal in restaurant.

We did our usual chart room then Golden Lion until quiz started

I went to bed but 6 stayed out for final pint .

Have so much enjoyed your journey, and a chuckle! We were on Queen Anne a few weeks ago and succumbed to the “strong cocktails “.Could not understand why I felt a little fragile the next morning.

We were also stuck on the bridge whilst a yacht passed through.Could not understand why everyone was shouting to us to move behind the barrier. And did the road lift up very high, very impressive.

Wednesday Disembarkation

Clocks had gone back 1 hour so it wasn’t as much of an early call as seemed

Our Disembarkation time was 8.05 but we were told to report for wheelchair assistance 15 minutes before in Bright lights society

Usual last day issues with full elevators so managed to get downstairs and carry on /off only

A sign outside Bright Lights said wheelchair assistance now in Queens room

We couldn’t immediately see the roped off area as people were queuing in a solid line in front of it

However we managed to cut through with a lot of “excuse me’s” and his name ticked off a list and allocated a wheelchair pusher.

That did expedite our exit from ship and we collected baggage/trolley before being escorted to nearby coach for our journey home

We were on road by 8.30 and home by 4.30-would certainly do coach transfer again.

As mentioned earlier we didn’t feel we got value from drinks package so will probably pay as we go next time.

We liked Queen Anne so our cruise next year is on her but we chose deck 7 with cabins above and below.

So that was our latest cruising adventure!
