How's the weather in late September-October, 2024?

Hubby and I will be boarding the Radiance next week from Vancouver to La, and on through the Panama Canal to Tampa. He refuses to take long sleeve shirts but will have a light weight jacket plus slacks for dinner. I'm thinking I should pack a few long sleeve blouses for a few days until we sail farther south. I intend to wear long jeans, long sleeve shirt, and light jacket on the plane. Still packing plenty of shorts, capris and short sleeve tops to wear when south of LA. Does this sound like a good plan? Hate to drag a winter coat along. Thanks all!

Sounds reasonable. You can look up current and forecasted Vancouver weather, and perhaps San Francisco and LA, and subtract 10 degrees for being off shore.

If you plan to be out on deck after sunset I would pack something warmer like a wind shirt.  It will be cool until you get south of Ensenada.  In Baja we are getting high 60's to low 70's during the day and low 60's at night and that's with no wind.  I wouldn't pack a winter jacket and your ensemble sounds good.  He might want to pack something a little heavier.

From a Vancouver perspective, the weather is kind of in its fall transition phase and can have a mix of everything. 

 

Generally, I've been finding the mornings cool enough to need to wear either a short sleeve shirt and a hoodie or long sleeve shirt and a vest (basically something to cover the arms particularly if it's a bit windy).  It wouldn't hurt to bring a hoodie/light jacket for windy days on the top deck of the ship at night either.  

 

It'll stay cool if it's cloudy midday/afternoon.  But if it's clear and sunny, I find it gets warm enough that I get a bit sweaty during my walks and could take off my hoodie/vest.  We're also getting the odd drizzly/showery days too but not the multiple days of rain just yet so you may need some rain coverage/an umbrella.

 

Evenings are similar to the mornings where something to cover the arms would be good.

Thanks so much to all of you! I ruled out the winter coat and will take a light hooded wind breaker/rain jacket over a long sleeve shirt and long jeans the first few days on board. Once farther south, I can break out the shorts, short sleeves, swimsuit and sandals. DH is hesitant to take long pants, other than dinner slacks but he tolerates 50-60 degree weather ok in shorts; I don't. He will take a light wind breaker/rain jacket as well. I took out some heavier stuff too, such as my travel hair dryer, a fairly heavy book, costume jewelry, too much makeup (which I usually don't wear anyway), and "maybe" my full bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash (I prefer mine vs the ship stuff). Delta luggage weight limit is 50#, so will pack less than I normally do. Packing list now complete! Thanks again!

Get some vacuum bags and a small rechargeable vacuum pump.  It won't help with weight but really reduces the volume.  I had a hand pump but just found a really small rechargeable on Amazon and have used it a couple of times.
