Does anyone know if Princess, or anyone, is doing updates on the Star's repairs? I haven't really heard anything recently about the investigation into the fire or repairs and am very interested as I am booked on the June 4 sailing.

Someone from Cruise News Daily addressed that very question.

Wow, someone must have been out waiting for her in Germany this morning. Impressive pictures, and obviously they did some cleanup to secure her for the voyage across the pond and to be able to do prep work inside as they did the crossing.

If you find more please send the link on. Thanks! :)

sure, that's me... and it was really early but it was the only chance to see the damages clearly. Now there the shipyard's buildings in front of them.

Kind regards

WOW -- #3 & 4 of the group are AMAZING.

Wondering how they got all that done on exterior -- was that done while at Freeport or at sea? Did they suspend planks & platforms down from the top while it was at sea & bring debris up that way, or lower it down to Caribe balconies? How did they get all the wood put in place to board up all those rooms? Why were a couple of balcony bases left in place? Could that be where fire started & further investigation to be done?

Still wondering if they will ever be able to determine EXACTLY what caused it and will that info be revealed to rest of world?

Thanks for taking such great photo's Helge. We waved goodby to the Star in Montego Bay, on 3/25. She is already looking a lot better.

Here are some more photos fairly high res. Click on photo also.

20060409 STAR PRINCESS arriving this morning at Bremerhaven / Germany after a nine-day nonstop trip over the atlantic-ocean causing of the fire-damage of 150 cabins in the Carribean. 50 worker of Lloyd Werft already cleaned the damage during the voyage, so that now immediately work can began. STAR PRINCESS will be back in service on May, 15 starting her Baltic cruises in Copenhagen.

20060409 The fire-damage looks like a "wound" in her hull during entering Bremerhaven docks at Lloyd Shipyard for reparing. Before that they let down all life boats

Here is one from last year:

Sorry for posting late, but yesterday I was not allowed to post, because I'm new here.

According to Princess supervisors this am, they started going through the damaged cabins once the ship arrived in Germany to see if anyone's things can be saved. Each item has to be tagged and listed by owner and then compared with Princess insurance claims. Not evey cabin was completely destroyed and a special team has to work on the claims. It's not like they're going to simply sweep up things and throw them in the trash.

They are still shooting for mid may as the sail date are are very hopeful that all work will be complete by then and she is repaired.

Frank - Thanks so much for the pictures of the Star repairs.

Not only is it good to see the progress being made on her repairs, but these photo's show the enormous scale of the Star herself.

(I'm booked on my first cruise mid June on the Star - I knew cruise ships were big but Wow!)

Thanks again.

There's another thread with interior photos from Star's fire damage:

The interior and balcony photos are shocking to me, particularly the amount inside!!! I have so much sympathy to those that went through that awful night -- and still cannot believe only one person died!! Amazing.....

The plywood was installed in Freeport prior to departure.

 Can you imagine what a problem the Star would have had if the ran into a major storm transiting the Atlantic with all those "open windows"

I think it was the Pride of America, still being fit out, that sank in port after taking on water from a storm.

It was the Pride of America

Here is what happens when you leave the windows open

It would be embarassing if that happened mid Atlantic.

Sure, but the Pride's "open windows" were in that storm absolutely close to the water line: Anyway, it was horrible for the shipyard and my hometown (and NCL...) and I think, open windows on the Star will not be extremly(!) dangerous but dangerous enough and not really funny for the workers onboard.

Have a look on the Pride:
