drjohn4 Posted May 13, 2006 #179 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Looking closely at the pictures, there seem to be white boxes with wires coming out of them above the partition of every other balcony. Does anyone think these may be heat detectors?
Sea Day Cruiser Posted May 13, 2006 #180 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Thank you, Frank, for taking the time to go to the shipyard and then post these pictures. It's been so enlightening to be able to see the progress they've made on the Star. You have been so kind to all of us. Thank you!
marlinmike Posted May 13, 2006 #181 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Looking closely at the pictures, there seem to be white boxes with wires coming out of them above the partition of every other balcony. Does anyone think these may be heat detectors? As reported today by Cruise News Daily: Princess told CND today that in addition the repair work from the fire, Lloyd also installed a drencher and fire detection system on the ship's balconies as part of the fire safety measures they said earlier they were implementing. The plastic furniture on the balconies has also been replaced with metal, and many of the balcony dividers have also been replaced with noncombustible ones. (The rest will be replaced shortly.)The same upgrades are now being scheduled for the rest of the ships in the fleet, and those will be completed during the next six months while the ships are in service. fg_hb Posted May 13, 2006 #185 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Hi again, as the Star Princess leaves on time and in Germany there's no speed limit on freeways :) I had the chance to see and photograph the begin of the departing of the Star Princess. Here are the photos for you: http://www.essorg.de/sp Because I'm in hurry I can't write mor now. As I see the webcam of the Star Princess has no pictures at the moment. Bye Bye Frank
Globaliser Posted May 13, 2006 #186 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Thanks for those pictures, Frank! And so fast. Here are the webcam pics (from the link I posted above) showing Star Princess leaving Bremerhaven this morning. Because there are so many, I'm not posting the pictures directly into the thread. I didn't manage to capture every minute's image, but many of the ones I missed seem to have been while she was stationary (perhaps in the lock?). To see each picture, just click on the link. To download each picture, right-click on the link, left-click on Save Target As, and then give each file a suitable name (or number) in order. If you number each one with the number to the left of the link in this list, and put them all into a folder, you may be able to see them in some slideshow function that effectively animates the sequence. The timestamp in the top right hand corner was about 5 minutes slow, IIRC. 01 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmhza.jpg 02 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmi4w.jpg 03 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmi6o.jpg 04 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmib7.jpg 05 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmick.jpg 06 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmidl.jpg 07 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmih3.jpg 08 http://i3.tinypic.com/zkmiih.jpg 09 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmijt.jpg 10 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmio3.jpg 11 http://i3.tinypic.com/zkmis0.jpg 12 http://i3.tinypic.com/zkmiw5.jpg 13 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmiy1.jpg 14 http://i3.tinypic.com/zkmkhs.jpg 15 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmkjd.jpg 16 http://i3.tinypic.com/zkmknq.jpg 17 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmkpi.jpg 18 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmkqp.jpg 19 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmkur.jpg 20 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmkw0.jpg 21 http://i3.tinypic.com/zkmkx0.jpg 22 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmkyg.jpg 23 http://i3.tinypic.com/zkml2d.jpg 24 http://i3.tinypic.com/zkml3q.jpg 25 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkml4x.jpg 26 http://i3.tinypic.com/zkml8k.jpg 27 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmla9.jpg 28 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmlbp.jpg 29 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmlfo.jpg 30 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmlh2.jpg 31 http://i3.tinypic.com/zkmlib.jpg 32 http://i3.tinypic.com/zkmln5.jpg 33 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmlok.jpg 34 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmluf.jpg 35 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmlvo.jpg 36 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmlxi.jpg 37 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmm1u.jpg 38 http://i3.tinypic.com/zkmm3a.jpg 39 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmm4l.jpg 40 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmnf7.jpg 41 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmngk.jpg 42 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmnhs.jpg 43 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmnis.jpg 44 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmnmu.jpg 45 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmnnt.jpg 46 http://i3.tinypic.com/zkmnph.jpg 47 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmntk.jpg 48 http://i1.tinypic.com/zkmnv4.jpg 49 http://i3.tinypic.com/zkmnwl.jpg 50 http://i2.tinypic.com/zkmo1i.jpg With thanks to http://www.tinypic.com for the free hosting space. BLS Posted May 13, 2006 #187 Share Posted May 13, 2006 A huge Mahalo (thank you!) from here in Hawaii. We have watched the Star's progreees through the photo's and viewed her sailing from Germany with a big sigh of relieve. (we sail on Sept 12 b/b on the 22nd too) So we will spend 25 days onboard and sail on her back into NY. We all owe you a debt of gratitude. You've kept us well informed. Roses2 Posted May 13, 2006 #189 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Now, how about all the armchair "experts" that posted the negative remarks that Princess was not being open and honest about the repairs, and that the Star would never sail on time, just coming on and saying, "sorry we were wrong". And another big thanks to Frank for his great photos documenting the repairs.

And another big thanks to Frank for his great photos documenting the repairs. I'm not an armchair expert but one who was on the Star and saw first hand the damage and I can tell you I never thought that the ship would be fixed. Our friends who were with us are also amazed. I still wonder whether or not the 79 cabins that got condemed are fully up and running but I guess if you have had people working 24/7 anything is possible. SomeBeach Posted May 13, 2006 #191 Share Posted May 13, 2006 We don't know what the progress is on the inside as Princess has yet to release an update. I would guess that many finishing touches are being done as she sails to Copenhagen. My only wish is that all those that sail on her enjoy their cruise. She's a beautiful ship and I am so happy that she's back out on the seas! :)

SomeBeach Posted May 13, 2006 #193 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Thanks for the pix Judy. I hope the Star goes back to turning the web cam on the ship for nighttime like it was before the fire. The Star was the first to do that and some others followed but not all Prin ships turn their cameras.

I was thinking the same thing this morning, then concluded "not in a million years!". I bet you will still get folks coming on and saying "there is no way she is back up to par" and will latch on to anything, no matter how trivial, anyone on Monday's cruise reports as not being up to their expectations. Its actually pretty entertaining to go back through the old threads and read people swearing that the shipyard would have to cut her in half and replace the damaged sections, she'd be out of service for a year, etc., etc.
sunprincess Posted May 13, 2006 #195 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Bon Voyage Star Princess Frank I was so surprised to see your photos today. You really have been a gem for us all to take all the photos & post them :) Globaliser thank you also for your photo links. Appreciate your work to share that with us all. Hulagirl Posted May 13, 2006 #197 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Also want to say thank you for all the pictures on the Star! It has been fascinating watching the progress each week. It truly amazes me that they were able to keep to the schedule of having the ship back into service this soon after seeing the pictures of the damage. I'm truly impressed with what we have seen from Frank's pictures. Looking forward to our cruise in December on this ship again. A big thanks to Frank! What an excellent job you have done for all of us. Globaliser: Also want to thank you for posting all those links. Fun to see the progression of the ship sailing out.
