Three cheers for Frank and his fabulous pictures..the quality, detail and the number of times he posted them and the easy format in which to view them has been appreciated by so many, including me, on the CC family.

Great work.

Frank,

I wanted to echo the sentiments of everyone here and say thanks for taking the time to take the photos of the Star as she was her way to recovery... You took alot of time to do this and that an amazing thing to do for everyone here.... I would love to sail on her one day.... And C.C. should bring you on as a correspondent..... Your dedication is amazing....

May those who sail on her from here out be blessed with a safe voyage and calm seas......

Looking closely at the pictures, there seem to be white boxes with wires coming out of them above the partition of every other balcony. Does anyone think these may be heat detectors?

As reported today by Cruise News Daily:

Princess told CND today that in addition the repair work from the fire, Lloyd also installed a drencher and fire detection system on the ship's balconies as part of the fire safety measures they said earlier they were implementing. The plastic furniture on the balconies has also been replaced with metal, and many of the balcony dividers have also been replaced with noncombustible ones. (The rest will be replaced shortly.)

The same upgrades are now being scheduled for the rest of the ships in the fleet, and those will be completed during the next six months while the ships are in service.

Hi again,

as the Star Princess leaves on time and in Germany there's no speed limit on freeways :) I had the chance to see and photograph the begin of the departing of the Star Princess. Here are the photos for you:

Because I'm in hurry I can't write mor now.

As I see the webcam of the Star Princess has no pictures at the moment.

Bye Bye

Frank

Thanks for those pictures, Frank! And so fast.

Here are the webcam pics (from the link I posted above) showing Star Princess leaving Bremerhaven this morning.

Because there are so many, I'm not posting the pictures directly into the thread. I didn't manage to capture every minute's image, but many of the ones I missed seem to have been while she was stationary (perhaps in the lock?).

To see each picture, just click on the link.

To download each picture, right-click on the link, left-click on Save Target As, and then give each file a suitable name (or number) in order. If you number each one with the number to the left of the link in this list, and put them all into a folder, you may be able to see them in some slideshow function that effectively animates the sequence.

The timestamp in the top right hand corner was about 5 minutes slow, IIRC.

A huge Mahalo (thank you!) from here in Hawaii. We have watched the Star's progreees through the photo's and viewed her sailing from Germany with a big sigh of relieve. (we sail on Sept 12 b/b on the 22nd too) So we will spend 25 days onboard and sail on her back into NY.

We all owe you a debt of gratitude. You've kept us well informed.

Aloha,

Bev

Now, how about all the armchair "experts" that posted the negative remarks that Princess was not being open and honest about the repairs, and that the Star would never sail on time, just coming on and saying, "sorry we were wrong".

And another big thanks to Frank for his great photos documenting the repairs.

I'm not an armchair expert but one who was on the Star and saw first hand the damage and I can tell you I never thought that the ship would be fixed. Our friends who were with us are also amazed. I still wonder whether or not the 79 cabins that got condemed are fully up and running but I guess if you have had people working 24/7 anything is possible.

We don't know what the progress is on the inside as Princess has yet to release an update. I would guess that many finishing touches are being done as she sails to Copenhagen.

My only wish is that all those that sail on her enjoy their cruise. She's a beautiful ship and I am so happy that she's back out on the seas! :)

Thanks for the pix Judy.

I hope the Star goes back to turning the web cam on the ship for nighttime like it was before the fire. The Star was the first to do that and some others followed but not all Prin ships turn their cameras.

I was thinking the same thing this morning, then concluded "not in a million years!". I bet you will still get folks coming on and saying "there is no way she is back up to par" and will latch on to anything, no matter how trivial, anyone on Monday's cruise reports as not being up to their expectations.

Its actually pretty entertaining to go back through the old threads and read people swearing that the shipyard would have to cut her in half and replace the damaged sections, she'd be out of service for a year, etc., etc.

Also want to say thank you for all the pictures on the Star! It has been fascinating watching the progress each week. It truly amazes me that they were able to keep to the schedule of having the ship back into service this soon after seeing the pictures of the damage. I'm truly impressed with what we have seen from Frank's pictures. Looking forward to our cruise in December on this ship again.

A big thanks to Frank! What an excellent job you have done for all of us.

Globaliser: Also want to thank you for posting all those links. Fun to see the progression of the ship sailing out.

They already have! :( Amazing

What great work must have been done. Rather than question, why not celebrate all those people who will get their cruise. Truly an amazing job was done in Germany! Bravo to Princess and to LloydWerft!

How about the experts that said all they have to do is slide out the damaged cabins and slide in the new. They had the Star sailing in a week.
