twonpcb Posted June 29, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2004 We have cruised Celebrity twice before and it has become our favorite line. We have the opportunity to cruise on the Diamond Princess in Alaska soon, and I was wondering what anyone could tell me about the line. Are they close to Celebrity? What about food? I understand they have open seating dining....do they also have traditional? Any other input would be appreciated. Thanks, Robert

fnewman Posted June 29, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2004 Our personal experience is that the food may be slightly better on Celebrity. I've seen that posted elsewhere by others as well. However, as said above, your tastes may be different.
OCruisers Posted June 29, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2004 twonpcb .... We've been on three Celebrity cruises and (throughout the years) MANY Princess cruises. We like BOTH! Everyone has different opinions and tastes. Here's ours: FOOD - Like the food in the Main Dining Room much better on Celebrity. The menu selection suits us better and the food was, without fail, cooked to order. ALL OTHER FOOD we liked a bit more on Princess. It's hard to beat having a 24-Hour HOT buffet ... especially, when returning from an afternoon shore excursion. Also, most Princess ships have neat Hamburger Grills outside overlooking the pool/band. Hamburgers in Paradise! :D SERVICE - Celebrity by a long shot! Always friendly, happy service in all areas. ENTERTAINMENT - Princess hands down! Especially, the variety of things to do and in the lounges/bars in the evenings! We are equally happy on either! A WIN-WIN situation! Happy Sailing! mafig Posted June 29, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 29, 2004 We've only been on one Celebrity and one Princess cruise. However, we enjoyed the food on Princess better. We were a little disappointed in Celebrity and after ten days on the Summit, we were bored with the selections. We missed pasta. Pizza was better on Princess. After we returned from Celebrity, I had to run out to a local restaurant, just for some spaghetti and meatballs!

Druke I Posted June 29, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 29, 2004 Sailed first time on Celebrity's Mercury this past March, and thought it a nice ship. Sailed Sun Princess this past May, a very similar sized ship, and loved it. Think food presentation on Celebrity, at least in dining room, a little more polished than Princess. Thought food selection in Lido superior on Princess, but wait staff much more attentive on Celebrity. Thought production shows on Princess better staged and costumed than Celebrity. Was amazed at lack of fresh flowers on Celebrity - ship was bare. Do think Princess has a much wider range of ships and itineraries. Isn't it wonderful we have so many choices?
