St Kitts Marriott

My group of 6 is sailing to St. Kitts in November. It will be the first time going there for all of us so hopping on a small boat to go to another island like Nevis doesn’t sound all that great. We have looked around for something to do and none of the ships excursions appeal to us nor have we really seen anything on the websites for St. Kitts. We did see where there is a Marriott there that looks nice and has the largest casino in the Caribbean.

Has anyone been there before to have any suggestions either for against our going there for the day?

Below is some info from another thread.

Seems like a great deal for those facilities?

If you book and go I would love to here about it.

We go in Feb?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are paying $75 for a room for the day which they are allowing 6 of us to share. And we are entitled to use all of their facilities. We figure $12.50 per person for the day is a bargain - and the Marriot told us that the cab ride was $2.50 per person.

We had a great time at the Marriott - it was our favorite stop on the cruise. We took a cab over and asked the driver to show us around a little vs. heading straight to the hotel. (If you go straight there it's about a 10-minute ride from the pier.) St. Kitts is a beautiful island and cleaner than lots of the others in the Caribbean. Once we got to the Marriott they were waiting for us at the front desk and instantly knew who I was when I gave them my name. We had been upgraded to an oceanfront room which was amazing and quite large. The six of us fit in there with no problems bumping into one-another, etc. We certainly didn't stay in the room for long though.

Everything about the Marriott was wonderful. Every single employee from maids in the hallway to the door man in the casino who wished you luck every time you entered, the bar tender at the pool bar, the towel hut ladies, etc. was friendly, smiling and welcoming. The resort was clean and not at all crowded - though the Marriott had warned me that they were quite full on that day and crowds could be an issue. Yes, food and drinks were a little high priced but very average for a resort. (Actually I think they were more expensive in San Juan.)

All six of us wished we had longer to be in St. Kitts and we have all agreed that we will go back there some time for a vacation; not just a day off a ship. I can easily see spending time there relaxing.

Hey Liz.. thanks for the links.. we are going in March.. you will have to give a review when you get back:)

I thought Thenford only took groups of 30 or more? Maybe I am mistaken and have him confused with someone else:confused:

How much was the taxi from the ship to the hotel? We would like to take a cab there and spend about 1 hour and return to the ship Thanks

Hi Liz ... i live in Toronto too!!

We were in St. Kitts for one day in November 06. We really enjoyed the snorkeling at White House Bay. Do you happen to know if the snorkeling at the beach at The Shiggidy Shack is as good.

Any other recommendations for shore snorkeling with a restaurant as well.

Thanks!

Yes, snorkeling is good near the Shack. This is a fun place to hang out.

If you have any other questions, you can also e-mail me at liz.pereira@marlintravel.ca

Another place to can visit Cockleshell for snorkeling and Lion's Beach Bar.

I have been going to St. Kitts since I was a child. :)

You have only been going for a few years then... LOL

Will be there on the Sea Princess in Frb and was thinking of it but decide o take cab just to Frigate to chill and have a beer at the shack.

Thoughts my fellow Trontonian:confused:

The cab ride was $10 each way for the four of us plus tip. No troubles getting a cab as they were plentiful and waiting at both the Marriott and the harbor.

I am happy to report back that we are going back to St. Kitts for 5 days/4 nights at the Marriott. We have been talking about it so we finally booked it. Right now it's scheduled for late April though we may try to switch it up and go in March.

Just thought I would let you know this is exactly what we are doing in Feb....

The Marriott is located in Frigate Bay, down the street from the Shiggidy Shack and other fun beach bars. Then up to the Marriott for casino and cab back....

Liz,

Thanks for the head's up on the cricket tournament - I think we will skip March and stick with April for our trip. You have yet to give me bad advice.

The Marriott was very friendly to me. I did call them ahead of time and arranged to spend the day there. They were ready for me when I arrived and even gave us an ocean view hotel room to use for the day. We didn’t really need the room at all but it was nice to have a place to 'dump' our bags and at the end of the day we did use it to clean up. We got towels, etc as we were looked at as guests of the hotel. I also went to that shop and we got some cute shirts and souvenirs. I really don't have one complaint at all about our time in St. Kitts other than the fact that it wasn't long enough.

Everyone from the cab driver to the man who opened the door to the casino was smiling and friendly. We are really looking forward to getting to spend some actual time there and relaxing. We have decided while we are there we will hire a car to take us around and show us the island one day. (This seems easier than renting a car and yelling at one-another about driving on the wrong side of the road.)

I just called the Marriott Frigate Bay and for the day we are in port, March 29th, the day pass cost is $125. plus tax because it is high season. Can someone tell me if the beaches are public? If so, could we go to the Marriott (or someplace else you would recommend), take our towels and have a swim for an hour or so without using their facilities? We were willing to go for the $75. but $125. is just too much. Thanks.

The Marriott in St Kitts had a beach to sit on but you can't get there without going through the Marriott and down by their pools, etc. (There are rocks way to the end so it doesn't attach to anything else.) They will check to see if you are a guest of the hotel as you cut through then when you step on the beach because they have little umbrella/chair set-ups you can use. Like somebody else said though - there are other restaurants, etc. right down the road and you might be able to go to one of those to use the beach.
