info on Mercury April Drydock is scheduled...

Hi all, I know most of you know this, by all the posts and such, but personally, after booking my first cruise on X, mainly based by what I researched on their website...I wanted some solid customer service that what they advertise on thier site, vs what is in the actual cabins, Mercury's (CC & SS cat) was the same. I chose X, for a cruise w/ my Mom because of the advertised pampering and beds offered in these cat cabins...and was willing to pay more for it.

So, I have been contacting X Cust service, for 4 days and commited, till I got a CORRECT answer, what the deal was with the Mercury. There are alot of lines out there, now offering better beds/cabins, this is one area that is extremely important to me, I do not care to spend thousands of dollars to sleep on a bed that is so thin, you can feel the platform below!! What's up with this, it drives me crazy, how can cruise lines, offer you all the wonderful luxuries of cruising and forget about the beds!!

Anyway, I finally got some ?? answered by a "superior" And wanted to share with you, what they said to me. They do have the Mercury scheduled for up-grades ie: bed/bedding (soft goods) and a general face-lift in April 2007! I was so happy to hear this, as we have 2 cruises booked on her next year, so I really wanted to know. I know also, that until the job is DONE, anything can happen, but just thought I'd spread the good news that according to them, the "gap" in April 2007 schedule where Mercury is not cruising, is indeed face lift time!!:D Anyone scheduled to cruise after 4/2007, will have all the upgrades on their cruise! Yeaaaaa....

Thanks elena, I knew we could do two cruises on HAL, I know they have heavenly cabins and beds, but I really wanted to try X and the IT was perfect for us RT Seattle, so I am one not to quit, till I get the answer I need!!:D :D

Hi

Yes the Mercury is going to be upgraded! New heavenly beds with pillow top mattresses, pillow menu, throw pillows, new color scheme, furniture rearranged, samsung flat panel tv's in the rooms, new sinks, faucets, shower heads, salon hair dryers. They are not going to add the balconies like they did with Century as the Mercury has plenty. An alternate dining restaurant and upgraded public rooms. We just got off of her and we are going to go back next year to see and enjoy all of it!

The part I don't get is...why is it advertised on the X site under the ship MERCURY, if this stuff is not done yet, they should not be advertising something that is not in palce and in those cabins!:(

is we have seen this happen before when people supposedly in the know on board or at corporate offices gave out false info. Remember everything else that was going to be done to Century, Horizon and Zenith. I hope they do make these changes but I won't believe it until Celebrity officially announces it. I believe the posters, just don't trust those who are telling them as they have not been accurate in the past.

My DH and I will be on the Merc sailing to Alaska the 1st week of July. I am very excited to read about the upgrades, and I will be thinking positive thoughts that not only will it happen, but it will happen good!

We are looking forward to sailing on X! It will be our first time to Alaska, our first cabin with a balcony, and we are in a CC cabin! How cool is that! Even tho it is a ways off, we are counting down the days! Woo-Hoo!

Thanks for the posting news...great to read about good things happening!

I know your point Don, I was not trying to know everything, I just wanted to share with all, after MUCH calling and persistence, what X cust service told me. I choose to be optimistic about everything, I know it is not done till it's done, just as I stated before. If it get's done wonderful, if not...still wonderful! Thanks:)

Ok but what about us poor slobs who have booked mercury prior to April?

We are spending thousands on a Sky Suite, so by the luck of the month we should plan on everything being sub-par? Doesn't seem right. If they have so many complaints regarding their bedding now, how can they justify charging us the same price for crap bedding when they will be doing what they currently advertise only after April.

Does not seem right...

I am looking forward to our cruise it is our first, and with the money my DH is spending to pamper me to help with the whole turning 40 thing, I certainly hope the first thing we do is not start complaining about worn this and that and horrible bedding.

I read good reviews mixed with bad about Mercury and am just so anxious about what we'll find.

All I know is they had better have everything they currently advertise avavilable to us, otherwise that's false advertising.

Poohtaz, I have wondered that same thing myself. Many on these boards seem perfectly content to wait until 2007 or 2008 for refurbishments on ships that according to many reports need upgrading now. I can't help but wonder if this meek acceptance would be the same if they were paying $400 or $500 per day for two in a five star luxury hotel and found the beds, carpet and furnishing worn and stained. Great service entertainment and good food can only go so far! So many things on Celebrity seem to be "luck of the draw".

For myself, I would rather confine my gambling to the casino.

Right so what are we left to do? Call before hand and demand that their services be all that is advertised? or wait and hope once on board everything will be fine? I truly want to just relax about taking this cruise yet would like some assurance from X that everything will be as it should even without having been in drydock..

Where on the X wed site does it mention upgraded bedding under Mercury I read and reread the site and could not find it. Plus the pictures still show a free standing TV. Well we know that will be changing.

Go on the Century if you want all the upgrades, we did and It IS Fantastic.

Would love to go on Century but she isn't going where we want to go. But should we be forced to chase down the newly refurbished ships to guarantee quality standards? or should X step up and make sure all of their ships are up to standards?

Pooh,

What you need to do is quit reading all the reviews. You have come across good and bad reviews of the ships. Go and make up your own mind.

I have sailed on all the C class ships from X and have yet to sail on any X ship as bad as some of the reviews I've seen here.

If you go in with preconviced opinions, you may not be able to get out all that X has to offer.

I've done the same thing with cruises on Carnival, where my preconceptions have ruined a perfectly good cruise.

Mercury is my second favorite ship, go have a good time. The suites do have better bedding than the standard cabins. If there is a problem your stateroom attendant or butler will do what they can to make you comfortable.

Bravo, chessbriar, well put. I was going to reply to this thread earlier but I'm finding these well-intentioned threads that digress into bashing people that claim to have had a great cruise aboard Celebrity just too tiring.

But thank you for posting the information, Lysa. I had heard the same thing from various crew members in September. :D

There were so many people at this board complaining about the beds on the Galaxy that I really was afraid to sail her. We sailed her 25 August this year and had really good beds, not thin, no pain, we slept wonderful!

Oke, the Mercury and Galaxy need some refurbishment, but we had one of our best cruises thus far. We loved the ship. I don't take the extreme things in reviews too serious.

Hi Fran,

On the X site, go to plan a cruise drop-down>ships>Mercury>staterooms>concierge class and it will tell you everything that the CC cat offers. It definately states all the nice bedding, pillows, duvets, etc. Cust Service yesterday told me that a SS cat, is everything a CC cat. has PLUS the butler...Hope that helps:)

mimagic: you are right about the CC class of rooms, it is not listed under SS so they have a major mistake on their web site.

Hope they correct it soon as I too would expect the new bed in a CC class on Mercury.

We are sailing on Mercury in 2008 so hopefully the SS or CC will be all upgraded

Sorry for my error,

Francine

Certainly did not want to cause an uproar here (hehehe):p Then again... maybe X will notice if we cause an uproar!!

When I began about a month ago planning a cruise w/my Mom, I liked what I saw on the X website, I also needed to do Seattle RT, as my Mom cannot fly. So...that brought me to the Mercury, Then I began seeing all the reviews and frustration over hard beds, condition of ship, etc. Compared to what they are CURRENTLY advertising. I became a little...shall we say confused! So I began calling, emailing, etc. to find out what was going on. I really don't care that much about the ship itself, As with most ships,I am sure it is lovely enough, I just want clean, nice surroundings. But I DO CARE about the cabin foo-foos they SPECIFICALLY advertise and especially the bed! That is what you are paying more for!

As other's have stated in response to this post, I absolutely feel that if X is going to advertise on a website all over the world, what they offer in certain catagories of cabins and charge significantly more for them...they need to deliver that product! If Mercury does not CURRENTLY have these upgrades in these cat. cabins, there should be a footnote, stating that upgrades will be complete by...??? That way people have a choice as to whether they want to go ahead, fully in the know...or wait till after the drydock and cruise elswehere till then. But to advertise something, that really isn't there, is WRONG!!! They admitted to me these things are not there until 4/2007! So WHYYYYY is it on your site?? AARRGGGG...I have decided, even after what I was told, that I will make the best of it, because the IT is perfect for my Mom and I. Hopefully X will deliver what they told me. If some of you are cruising before the DD they have scheduled and the website is advertising something that is not in place yet, I would call, call, call and get your ?? answered! Just my thought's,

everyone have a great day!:D
