*LIVE* from Mariner of the Seas - PROBLEMS!

I don't necessarily believe that the groups, themselves, are a problem - it's just people's lack of sensibility and common sense (like being excessively obnoxious/rude/crude/loud, shooting a porno movie, groping in public).

If cruise lines would be more even handed about enforcing the rules, there would be less problems.

However, allowing one group to have sole use of a specific area of the ship without prior notification is wrong. If they wanted a private party there, than that is normally an accommodation made. However, for an entire voyage...now that's excessive.

royal should give them the option of chartering the entire ship or go elsewhere. I don't understand why groups like this wouldn't want to do a private charter anyway. That way they could do what ever it is they want to do on board and not offend anyone.

There are smaller ships and private Yahts that could be chartered. Seems to me that the group gets a kick out of the publicity. And the cruise lines are sucking right into it. I would be very upset if the solarium were closed to me for a cruise. I was upset as it was on the millennium when they had it OPEN to children on a Christmas cruise. I felt like it was closed to me. If I got in the pool I had to compete with kids and there snorkel gear and fins...

we had a similar experience on the Rhapsody a couple years ago over halloween week. We sure got an eyefull of things we never expected. When 25% of the ship pass are in a large group it just takes over everything.

It would be great if there was a site we could find out about a large group booking so we can plan accordingly. We would not like to have that experience again and were very glad this was a cruise our kids did not go with us on.

Can our TA find out this information?

I noticed the Mariner of the Seas is not listed for a sailing next Oct 20, wonder if this is due to a large group booking the whole ship or what?

It always nice to see you. Enjoy Freedom Round 2!

Good to see you too, darlin! It's no 54 day supercruise, but it's better than no cruise at all. :) Maybe I'll find myself a cute bear who likes girls. LOL

hugs,

me

that's fine and dandy, but I just bet you will be behaving yourself in public areas and won't be hogging the solarium all week!

WHAT A Bummer!! I will check with RCCL before I go on my next cruise to make sure that I will have access to all areas on the ship before paying my final payment. Everyone (no matter who your bunk mate is) should behave appropriately in public areas. YES you deserve compensation......

I was cruising last week and the main hangout was the solerium....

Tonite someone else posted a thread how one of RCCL's ships is being booked by a similar large group in january(I think)...............that thread also got pulled.......

I'm sailing in January. I've tried to search Google, but could not find any groups. Do you recall any additional info ... ship ... port ... anything? I missed the thread.

Thanks!!!

Wow, this is crazy. I'd be *extremely* upset to have to be exposed to this during a cruise.

Just think, on a Disney cruise, you'd only have to worry about booking a cruise with a group of rabid Disney pin collectors! :p

Not that there's anything wrong that! ;) High 5, spongerob!! LOL :D

Wow - I feel so bad for you! I would be upset as well if parts of the ship that are to be used by everyone are closed for a 'group' to do alone. When choosing a cruise, I would have thought what the ship offers people in way of activities and facilities, is a huge part of why we choose to cruise on the ships that we do. I hope you have been able to not let it completely ruin your cruise. :)

We have booked to sail on the mariner for the new years cruise leaving Dec 31 - I certainly hope there isn't any areas that may be closed off. Surely RCL would contact everyone and let them know before they sail? Or am I being naive?

Can't wait to read the reviews of this particular sailing when it's done :D

I do feel sorry for those who have had part of the ship denied them, somehow doesn't seem right to give the Solarium to one group for the remainder of a sailing. I can understand one of the public rooms being reserved occasionally during a sailing but this seems excessive.

Question...was any part of the ship denied to the "Bears"?

Woah. Did anyone click on the link on the bearsvoyage page for bearsfilms? Eeeek....I can't believe RCI let a porn site/company book a portion of the ship. WTH? At least charter the full ship when there aren't a few thousand other paying customers!?!?! Groups can do whatever they want if they rent out the whole ship/hotel/whatever, but when it's on everyone elses dime? I don't think so. That's just wrong for RCI to say "here's the ship, have at it! Shoot all the porn ya want!" and though they may not have said it, it sure looks like they pretty much turned a blind eye to it....sheesh, makes the obnoxious teenager problem pale in comparison! I would be livid, kudos to you guys for holding your composure even when others obviously couldn't.

Laura

Also, don't you think RCI should have a policy where you're informed if more than 1/4 of the ship is a group? It stinks when you're made to feel like an outsider on your vacation because places are closed down for the big group, they're running rampant through the halls cheering their work pep song etc....I was on the Voyager in 2001 when Citygroup took over the ship....the ice rink was closed almost all week because they were having meetings, and there was this clan of citygroupers everywhere you went, it put a little damper on things. My wife and I just finished having dinner at Chops after attending the Platinum and Diamond C&A Party. Although I can't say for certain, I believe there was one major difference between this party and past parties, the Captain did not speak although he was present. Additionally, there was no Q&A for staff. It almost seemed as if the wanted us to hurry up eating and drinking and go.

I have left numerous messages for Maria, Guest Relations Manager on board and she has not returned my calls. When I have gone down to Guest Relations and attempted to call her directly, she does not answer. I will report more once I return, but insofar there are a good number of us who got a hold of Viviene's ear this afternoon and told her how we felt. I cancelled our plans for Liberty next year and others were saying similar things to her while we were there.

we were almost on this sailing- thankfully dh had out of town business so we switched to this sunday sailing- there are 2 couples on this sailing that will also be on our sailing- i cannot wait to hear what they have to say-

i saw the earlier thread about the gay porn stars being on mariner this week and a nurses group is on there too- i called rci to see if they would tell me if there were any groups onboard our sailing and what types of groups were on our sailing- they said many groups are on your sailing and no we cannot specify what types of groups they are..... you can bet i am asking for clean sheets and comforter when i get onboard...lol - which they should do anyway really- if enough super large groups like this one of 500 cause the other 3000 plus pax to complain heavily............i would think rci would take that into consideration - any large group behaving badly should be booted off the ship like i would be if i were the harrasser...........

We were originally booked to sail this cruise but changed cruise dates when we found out about the large group sailing. It was fairly obvious from their website that they had plans to occupy public areas for private gatherings. It really doesn't matter if it's a group of girl scouts or gay porn stars (and fans), a group this large impacts every passenger onboard. Everyone on the original M&M thread ended up changing cruise dates when we found out about the group, and the info was out there for anyone researching this cruise date. I'm sorry that the OP is having a reduced cruise experience and I hope that their experience somehow gets better.

mojo - forget about the Guest Relations Manager - find the Hotel Manager - the big cheese. If you can't get through to him - find the Cruise Director and tell him that you wish to speak with the Hotel Manager at once and don't take no for an answer. If I saw the Captain walking by - I would grab him and tell him what I thought. I wouldn't give up easily - it is just not fair and I really feel for you guys.

I thought maybe they were wrestlers, until I looked a little further:D That's too bad, no group of any sort should be acting up or taking over public spaces onboard on a regularly scheduled cruise. Was this the group that so desperately want Danji's aft cabin that they paid for the rest of her cruise? By any chance?

And actually most of the bartenders that we talked to on Serenade were excited/curious about the Atlantis cruise and being busy. Pool bar will be open 24/7. They have scheduled extra bartenders, 400 cases of Red Bull and 300 cases of Grey Goose. There seemed to be an interest in tips and activity more than aprehension. :D :D It sounds like it will be a fun cruise.

I would email one of the tabloid people - since all are based in South Florida anyway. What a surprise that would be to pull back into Miami and have a dozen or so TV stations there to interview disgruntled passengers because some GAY PORN company was on a FAMILY ship

! ! :D

Hey this wasn't the same group that wanted dnajjj's aft cabin - Oh no, she was last week!

Actually I've read the crews don't mind the Atlantis charters..lots of fun, nice people, all tips are automatic and prepaid (no optioning out on charters) and extra cash tips flow freely. Anytime dining in the dining room, they just rotate the passengers through the levels of the dining room, pretty darned efficient, I wish they would try this dining room routine on normal sailings.

I find this appalling. For heavens sake, RCI is advertised as a family line- last time I checked public pornography was NOT family fare. My heart goes out to the OP. Months of planning and anticipation leading to this. And, to make matters worse, they are actually catering to the bad behavior. Let's reward bad behavior and give you a portion of the ship. Yea, that'll really teach them not to behave badly in public (that's sarcasm, BTY). Can you imagine if we reacted to our children that way or our employees.....????

Usually I really object to posters saying they should get a refund..but this time - it should be a free owner's suite. Isn't pornography illegal. Couldn't they sue? I don't usually react this strongly, but I find this so phenomenally offensive, I am beyond words. Good heavens, these poor people are literally trapped on a ship with the outrageous, ill mannered "bears". Even their cabins aren't "safe".

I have no doubt that they will be unable to secure any officers' attention. The crew knows what's going on and how wrong it all is. They are simply avoiding all the complaints because they can't justify the behavior and can't give away a ship load of free cruises.

(OK, I'll climb down from my soap box now)
