Sea Pass card lost in port!

So I was on the Radiance last month and was just taking a taxi back to the port facilities when I realized that my Sea Pass card had escaped my pocket somewhere on the island tour. It could have happened anywhere, on the French side in town, at Orient beach, in any shop on the Dutch side, in a resturant, etc, so there was no point going back to look for it. The good news was that we had a couple of hours before sailing and I still had my wallet and passport for ID. So I sent my lovely wife back up to the ship to see what could be done while I sweat it out by the pier security gate, at least 1/4 mile from the ship, with visions of being left behind floating through me head. :eek:

 

Fortunately I noticed that, although port security was checking everyone for picture ID and Sea Pass cards coming back, there was no one watching the Out side of the gate. So I slipped on to the pier that way. Bad security, but it worked out good for me. I caught up with my wife and when we got to the ship she explained the situation to the Radiance officer in charge of the gangway. She must have recognized me, or my wife vouching for me did the trick, because they just waved me past the card scanner and told me to go up to Guest Services to get a new card. Whew, catastrophe averted. Glad we didn't wait til the last minute to get back to the ship, or, as Captain Lokling always warned, I'd have gotten some good pictures of our lovely ship as she sailed away.;)

 

So, anyone have any similar stories? Thanks.

Glad it worked out good for you. A similar thing happened to my FIL in August. During a beach day (forgot exactly where) he noticed his SeaPass was not in his swim suit where he had placed it. After a couple futile attempts of trying to find it in the water, he gave up.

 

They walked back to the security checkpoint, explained the situation and was instructed to report to the Purser's Desk. There, they simply reissued a new SeaPass. Apparently, this happens often and they are understanding.

 

I wonder if anybody has had problems getting back on ship after losing their SeaPass; I mean to the point where they DIDN'T get back on board and ended up taking pictures of their ship sailing away??? :eek:

it's no biggie...when we where on the voyager 2 yrs ago i had to get two new cards...the first one got demagnitized and would not allow me to get into my cabin anymore...word to the wise...do not put your cell phone in the same pocket with your sea pass card...the phone demags the card...had no issue's getting a new card...then on a day at sea i lost my card at the pool...not sure how but **** happens...back down for another card...it takes about 30 seconds...more time waiting in line to speak to someone...

Also leave your magnetic money clips at home as they damage the cards as well.

Lossing you seapass in port is a lot different from loosing, or deactivating, it aboard ship. When we were on Mariner I was at customer service almost every day, and sometimes twice a day, because my card kept deactivating. And it wasn't because of anything in my pockets either.

When we were on a Disney cruise, my DH lost his drivers license on Disney's private island. This was right after 9/11 and you had to have a picture ID to fly. Anyway, we did get it worked out after much hassle. The funny part was that Disney actually found his license on their beach 4 months later and mailed it too us!

My DW lost her sea pass on Coco Cay. No problem getting back on the ship or replacing the lost card:) . Getting the charges placed by the person who found it removed was more difficult! We found out, in our final bill, that they bought rounds of drinks for their friends:mad: . After a few trips to the pursers desk and with some help from Mr Brian (the head of guest relations on the Sovereign) the charges were removed:cool: .

That's a neat story! Sadly, I'm shocked that they mailed it back! Go Disney!!! (never cruised them, nor want to) ;)

My husband lost his sea pass swimming at a beach in Cozumel last January. When we walked up to security at the beginning of the dock, and they asked for the card, we told them his was lost. He escorted us to the ship, my husband had to give his name and stateroom #, once he was found on the RCI list, the crew member at the entrance of the ship told Cozumel security that all was o.k., and instructed my husband to go straight to the pursers desk to have a new card issued.

And here I thought cruisers were all honest people :). Just goes to show human nature is alive on cruise ships as it is everywhere else...the good and BAD. The person(s) who used your wife's Seapass are vermin, human scum....

On our last cruise back in June, the kids and I were returning from our NativeWay excursion with Sharon in her car (no room on the bus, lucky us!). The boys wanted to return to the ship and I wanted to shop around a bit. Sharon dropped them off at the terminal and they took all our beach stuff with them back to the ship. She dropped ME off to shop. When I went to make a purchase I realized I had NO identification on me and NO seapass card - they were in my beach bag, with my kids. I thought I was going to throw up right there!! I went hustling to the terminal and waited with TONS of people - we were all there for the LAST tender. My heart was in my throat!! The first guard at the fence let me through when I told him what had happened. Then I walked to the area where we were all waiting to actually get ON the tender. I had to explain my situation AGAIN to someone and that someone radioed someone else - an officer looking guy with RCI who came alongside me. Again I explained what happened, as we inched closer and closer to the tender - the LAST tender remember?! I had to answer lots of questions with this guy - my name (of course) cabin number and names of others in my room. He was talking via radio to someone onboard with this info. I thought it was going well, until he asked again for all the names and said those were NOT the names in THAT room!! I was in full panic, but I was by God getting on that tender. I told him my kids are ALONE on that ship (no flaming, not little kids, but I made it sound more dire). He let me on the tender and somehow or another met me at the top of the stairs onboard the ship and pulled me aside. They called my cabin trying to get one of my sons and even paged them, all to no avail!. I was SO terrified they were not going to let me on!! They still thought I was giving them wrong info or trying to sneak onboard or something! They finally got whatever they needed to satisfy themselves that I was who I said I was and let me on. I was so happy I thought I was going to cry! My son arrived finally after they had let me on. They deactivated my seapass card of course and I had to get a new one. Even then there was some confusion as to my cabin number and the names. They had something wrong and kept telling me I was in one room when I was telling them I was in another. I was right, they were wrong naturally, but for a minute there I thought they were going to throw us ALL off!

 

I know that no matter HOW many announcements they make, a number of people leave behind or lose their cards every time the ship stops, and RCI is prepared to deal with that, but I have to say I felt LUCKY to have gotten back onboard that day! I have to say, too, that it only takes once - it will NEVER happen to ME again!

Just wanted to be clear...the drinks were charged to your card before it was reported lost and a new one issued...right?

Phew...I'd be freaking out too!! When I was 17 on the Grandeur of the Seas (8 years ago:eek: ) a friend that I'd met onboard and I were walking around the Havensight mall in St. Thomas, going from store to store buying stuff and wandering around like teenagers tend to do. We got a bite to eat at a restaurant and then about a few hours later while we were getting ready to board she realized she didn't have her seapass. After a few minutes of freaking out we decided we'd just have to go back to all the stores we were in. Imagine our surprise when we see a nice woman come up to us and hand us our sea pass!!! This was hours later and we were nowhere near the store where we apparently left it! So we were pretty lucky and it just goes to show you that there are a lot of good, honest people out there!

Also....I was a little scared this past June on the Liberty when I realized I lost my sea pass (or whatever they call them on Carnival...I've tried to block it out:D ). No big deal, I went down to customer service at 4AM and got a new one so I could get into my room....except I realized that I wrote my room number on it in sharpie:eek: I had difficulty sleeping for a while thinking that anyone that found my card couldn't make purchases on it but could just go directly to our room an slip in - I especially worried about it whenever I left my mom alone!! So I went to CS and they put my worries to rest when they told me that the card was COMPLETELY deactivated. But it was definitely a scare!

Some valuable tips here ...

 

You can sneak a friend on board by looking honest, vouching for them, and telling them it's your cabin mate.

 

The best way to get free drinks is to buy them on CocoCay, "lose" your SeaPass card, and tell the purser you didn't buy them.

The fraudulent charges were done on Coco Cay, were they are done by hand and not electronically, so they might have been charged after the card was replaced. When we disputed the charges they pulled all the written receipts and compared the signatures.

Thanks for the reply...whoever did that really had <insert word here> of brass! Too bad they didn't have a security cam there to review. I would love to hear the thief was put off the ship at the next port. Would turn out to be an expensive round of drinks indeed.
