Conquest only Questions! Post 'em Here!

Fantasy has biscuits and gravy. And grits. Maybe they think it's required because she sails from South Carolina. :p

I pretty much have to have the next cruise booked at all times to keep myself from having serious withdrawal after I'm home.

I do wonder, though, if that's why I never, ever receive any sort of email or offers from Carnival. They know I'm hooked so why bother to offer me anything (other than the usual PG rates)? Just went on a rant the other day about people getting upgrade offers and MC offers and casino offers, and those of us who sail regularly get our little plate of chocolates for being Platinum and above. Whoopie!

Retention should be just as important, if not more, because WE'RE the ones who make the referrals!

Looks like cigar smoking is allowed in the Jazz club.

Smoking (cigarettes/cigars/tobacco pipes/e-cigarettes) will be allowed in the jazz clubs of the following ships: Carnival Triumph, Carnival Victory, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory, Carnival Valor, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Freedom, and Carnival Splendor.

I haven't sailed on her for almost 4 years ago. Hubby likes to smoke a cigar after dinner and if my memory is correct they did have a cigar lounge back then.

Thank you for finding out for me... ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

Just back from another 5 days on Fantasy. Since I did the same itinerary in May, they've added Cheers (don't drink THAT much), FTTF (don't need it since I'm Platinum), and the brunch.

Have to confess that I wasn't impressed with Brunch. I eat a pretty large breakfast (love my made-to-order omelets on the buffet) and I felt the brunch menu was mainly breakfast items. If I'm eating at 12:30, I want lunch items. I missed my burger with bacon and guacamole. Guess I'll have to get my burger fix at Guy's.

Conquest pulled in and docked next to us in Freeport. Kept telling people, "I'll be on her in November for eight nights!!!" :D

I have a question. I know I've seen one somewhere (Zydecocruiser, maybe, but couldn't find it on his website). I need to see a pic of the outlet in the cabin.

I bought a mini surge protector with 3 plugs that also has two UBS ports. Took it last week but the plug in my Fantasy cabin was next to the end of the desk/vanity and I couldn't plug it in.

I'm not going to pack anything that I can't use, so a photo of the actual plug on a Conquest-class ship would be very helpful. Thanks all!

I could be wrong (and often am), but the mini surge protector you described sounds just like the one I have. On mine the metal plug which goes into the socket is on a "swivel". If you look at yours-does it have a circular area around the metal? If so, grasp the metal----mine came with a protective cover---and FIRMLY turn it, it takes some elbow grease. If it turns it can be put into any recepticle. I had to turn mine to get it to fit on my last cruise. If I'm not describing it well enough let me know and I'll take a couple of photos.

I actually got it out last night to look at the plug to see if it might swivel. No such luck. It cost me <$10 and when I sail solo, I don't really need a bunch of gadgets plugged in (and I'm solo on Conquest). I only bought it before the last cruise because I was sailing with two other women and thought it might come in handy. We didn't really even need it.

But now that I bought it, I feel compelled to use it! :p

On my first Carnival Cruise in 2008 (which was the last time I cruised), the friends I sailed with only wanted to eat in the main dining room for every meal. The first meal when we arrived was in the buffet on the LIDO and one other day I was able to eat breakfast alone at the buffet in the LIDO. I am so looking forward to trying all the new options and other old options for meal times on my next cruise on the Conquest 9-1-13. My question is... do they serve biscuits and gravy at the buffet for breakfast? I have read a few bad reviews about the breakfast buffet. I do plan to try the Punchliner club breakfast one day and Blue Iguana breakfast burrito as well. Any opinions on the breakfast buffet?

Did you find biscuits & gravy on CONQUEST???

They were on the eggs to order station on FREEDOM in June - hoping they'll have them on CONQUEST when we sail in October..

This is the Belkin with the swivel plug -- it comes in two models. The more powerful one can charge an iPad -- the basic one is for small items like phones.

I carry a lot of gadgets (for fun only) -- It works great! It costs more than the model you purchased

Thanks. I'd seen that one and almost ordered it online but I was sailing in a few days, so bought the cheap-o one I did at Walgreen's.

My only gadget is my phone, which I use just for the camera and built-in Kindle. Use it at night as a white noise machine, so it charges then. So I don't really need the extra plugs when solo.

Still, I know I've seen pics (of the room plug). Going to go through Zydecocruisers photo-filled website again this weekend. I may buy an underwater camera for this cruise, so it would be nice to be able to charge both and use the hair dryer!

I think its really going to depend on which room you are in. I've been on the Conquest 3x in the last 1 1/2 year and sometimes there is a cabinet to the right of the outlet and sometimes to the left. We have been in inside rooms and ov rooms.

That's the beauty of the swivel model -- I haven't found and outlet that can't accommodate it. :)

We'll be on the Conquest two weeks from Sunday for a B2B! :D :D :D

Have you been in a scenic ov? What did you think if so?

I'm in one of the 3 1A cabins that are mid-ship (one each on Upper, Empress and Verandah). So it's entirely possible that those "different" cabins have different plug locations than any other cabin layout. Supposedly, they're upper/lower but in reality they have two floor beds AND are slightly wider than the typical inside. We'll see!

Will you do me a favor and take a photo of the plug in your cabin? And come back and write a long, detailed, photo-filled review?

I booked this so long ago, and sailed twice since I booked, that I haven't had time to get too excited. But I'm starting to now. I think it started when I was standing on deck on Fantasy looking at her docked next to us in Freeport (was that only two weeks ago?) and thinking how great she looked.

Really not all that keen on the bigger ships but I did really like Glory much more than I expected, so I'm hoping I'll feel the same way about Conquest.

Jim, have a look at the deck plans.

This has been one of my main complaints about Carnival ships from the Fantasy class on up (I think they've finally put wrap-around exterior decks on the newest).

And not only does the outside promenade not wrap around, they often don't have deck chairs out. It's ridiculous. It's so difficult to find anywhere out-of-the way that's semi-peaceful to sit and read, and these decks are so under-utilized.

I know there's a hair dryer in the cabin, but Carnival says it's at the desk. I could swear the hair dryer on Glory was one of those big wall-mounted ones in the bathroom, but maybe I'm just getting that confused with Victory and Triumph.

Unlike most people who complain about how weak the desk models are, I have thin, fine hair and the big wall ones were actually too strong for me to get my hair styled. I was thinking about packing my little travel model.

But if they really are the smaller ones in the desk, I'll be fine. One less thing to pack.

Thanks!

Are you going to write a review full of great photos to help get me through the next six weeks? ;)

No but I will say this was by FAR the friendliest crew I have ever had. Multiple other cruisers noticed the same.

Besides, any Conquest review would pale in comparison to the job Sargent_Schultz does!

Do you by chance know what the platinium gift is? Hoping for the hat....

No biscuits or gravy at breakfast, that I ever saw anyway. We enjoyed the Blue Iquana for breakfast several days, chocolate chip pancakes at the Punchliner brunch, and the buffet. The made to order omelettes are great. I noticed they do not like to give more than two pieces of bacon at a time though on the buffet... LOL ;-)
