Escort to cabin upon boarding?

I don't think we've ever had an escort. The last 3 cruises, Galaxy, Jewel and Mercury we boarded early and had lunch in the buffet first because our rooms weren't ready yet. I think you would get an escort if you feel lost and ask for one. When passengers board in droves, it's probably hard to give everyone a personal escort.

Once you've cruised it's easier to find your way around, even on a different ship.

It depends on what time you board. If you board prior to the "official" time - the time listed in your docs, you may not get an escort. If you board after that time, then you are escorted to your cabin.

We were escorted to the Zenith this past November. Escorted service does not begin until all rooms are ready - the escorts, after all, are prepping the ship for your cruise.

We have been escorted to our staterooms several times, but more often than not when we board there have been more passengers than crew available. The lack of guidance seems to be dependant upon the staff avaiable to provide escorts. We have always determined where our cabin is located, and after sitting down for a few moments to enjoy our champaign, find our quarters ourselves. I am sure that some first time cruisers, or those new to Celebrity, will welcome the assistance. In this case I would suggest that they request an escort from the staff member that is greeting the boarding passengers. It may take a few moments to get an escort, but I am certain that they will be accomodated.

Yes, Celebrity still offers this service.

However...

Many people on Cruise Critic board early, at 11.30 am or 12 noon or something. Only if you board at or after the official boarding time (check your cruise tickets) will you be escorted to your cabin, for the simply reason that cabins are not ready before that time.

Cheers -

Does Celebrity still offer this personal touch?

We went alone to our cabin--as we arrived early--right around noon time--but later in passing close to the foyer I did notice ALOT of crew in line to welcome the new arrivals so I assume they were escorting them to their cabins.

We did the Baltic last August (2006) on Constellation. Prior to that we had been on two other Celebrity ships and got the escort treatment and the champagne/mimosa. This was the first time they didn't do it but, I think it had more to do with the way we boarded and the fact that everyone was pretty busy readying the ship for us and taking care of passengers already on board. No big deal, we still got a nice welcome aboard and seeing that the Constellation was or third Millie class ship, (Millenium and Summit prior to this one), we knew our way around pretty well. It was a nice touch the first time though and would be something worth doing for the first timers on a Celebrity ship. One thing I have noticed though, when we got to our cabin the steward seemed to appear out of nowhere to give us any information we needed and introduce himself. That was a nice touch! We've always had good ones and they are always extremely helpful.

On our Dec 06 cruise we arrived at 2pm and were dutifully taken to the buffet. They would NOT let us go to our room. They said no one could go to their rooms until 3 pm. So we sat in the buffet with the hundreds of other passengers who were trying to figure out where to put their roll-on bags. So the buffet was filled with luggage we had to dodge.:(
