constructiondude Posted February 16, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2007 Its not a cruise, but its a nice warm destination nonetheless; Seattle is often a bit on the cool side yet in May. And I've never been there.
legalslave Posted February 16, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2007 Dude, that's a great place to get away from the cold weather. Haven't been there in many, many, many years but I really enjoyed the 3 trips I made there. Have a great time! Diane

Sprocket Posted February 16, 2007 #5 Share Posted February 16, 2007 We just got home on the 7th, after spending 3 days in Palm Springs and 4 days touring, saw the Grand Canyon for the first time...... absolutely breathtaking. Weather in PS's was high 70's low 80's, very nice. We're just 30 minutes over the border, so I understand the wanting to go someplace warm (and dry). Enjoy your vacation. Ine Posted February 16, 2007 #6 Share Posted February 16, 2007 Take the cable tram up to the mountain, that is great. But not the dinner package,(disappointing), just the trip v.v. http://www.pstramway.com/
Orlandocruiser Posted February 16, 2007 #7 Share Posted February 16, 2007 The cable car up the mountain is not to be missed - just hope you are not afraid of heights! There is also a nice little air museum in PS if that interests you - DH thought it was great. (it has a WWII bomber that is really interesting - and I only tolerate air museums because DH really likes them!)
bepsf Posted February 16, 2007 #8 Share Posted February 16, 2007 I love Palm Springs - havent been there since Xmas a couple years back - I'm due for a trip soon... ...thinking of trying the Parker next time. http://www.theparkerpalmsprings.com/

Rare Copper10-8 Posted February 16, 2007 #10 Share Posted February 16, 2007 Can't go wrong in PS, dude! I agree, do the aerial tramway/cable car since this is your first time there - be warned about a pretty steep temp change up on that mountain, though. Great Mexican restaurant, Las Casuelas, downtown on the main drag with excellent Margarita's! http://www.pstramway.com/ http://inlandbusinessdirectory.com/Ent/Restaurants/Mexican/LasCasuelas/index.html

Love Cruises Posted February 16, 2007 #12 Share Posted February 16, 2007 Constructiondude ... have a great time in Palm Springs. This is really a beautiful place. Go on the tram like everyone says but also go on a city tour. When we were there they took us to a beautiful oasis. Palm Springs is a fun destination ... so ENJOY!!! onthegogirl Posted February 16, 2007 #13 Share Posted February 16, 2007 After our 3/3 cruise we are heading to PS. DH hasn't been there yet so we're going to do the tram, the casino for some poker and the Museum of the Desert in Palm Desert where they have the most amazing model train set up. Was planning dinner at the top of the tram but thanks to the good advice we'll bag that.
constructiondude Posted February 17, 2007 Author #14 Share Posted February 17, 2007 Yeah I avoid anything that gouges the tourist, dinners at the top of anything are usually a ripoff although I do confess to taking out of town guests to the space needle. Anything military related I will be into, I loved the Midway in San Diego. My hotel is in Cathedral City, the name escapes me though. How far is that from the airport? What is in that area that is worth checking out?
leoandhugh Posted February 17, 2007 #15 Share Posted February 17, 2007 dude, there are lots of "family" places and activities in Palm Springs - suggest you google and you will find lots of leads to sites. Am only aware of this because of your post on GL thread concerining acivities in San Diego.:) :)

I have never talked about that in here cuse I'm a very private guy and you'd never find me at a FOD meeting-although a funny thing occured on the Westerdam. I don't care that you brought it up, assuming everyone knows what we're talking about I can only hope it won't upset any of the friends I've made in here. Because of what I do for a living I lead two lives and I'm so used to it it doesn't even bother me anymore. As far as PS specifically, I'm already staying at a "family" hotel and I think it will be a lot of fun.

There are certainly more convenient places to stay. If you are able to make it into Palm Springs by Thursday, 6-7PM, make sure you check out the weekly street fair. This is a lot of fun and the price is right.

What is in that area that is worth checking out? Hi, We were in Palm Springs in 2005, with our 2 nieces (grown), for the Diana Shore Golf Classic. We went to the golf tournament, and I enjoyed the 2 days where the celebrities were out golfing, since I never see celebrities, living in Iowa. I mean, we actually got to talk to people like Mary Hart, Patrick Duffy, and John Lodge of the Moody Blues, and smile at Anna Sorenstam and Michelle Wie. We also golfed two of the days--there are 99 golf courses there. For touristy things, I made them do the Celebrity Bus Tour, which, of course I totally enjoyed. There's also a "Follies" show that the youngest performers are maybe 60 and range in age to 80--really enjoyed that. Lots of fun bars and places to eat in downtown Palm Springs. We also did that tram--pretty view! The 4 or 5 cities there all run together, and there seemed to be a ton on traffic--hope you are renting a vehicle to get around. Mostly, it was just so enjoyable being in that great weather, and sitting around our pool, and hotel verandah. Have fun! Chris (Iowa)

Hi Dude, I live about 100 miles from Palm Springs so I go to the casinos in the area quite a bit, gambling is one of my many vices. I do wish you were staying right in Palm Springs, there is so much to do right in the city. A great place for breakfast is "Peabodys" which is on the main street in Palm Springs. Have a great time. The weather should be perfect at that time. Say hello to my money if you hit one of the casinos. I am going on my first HAL cruise in 4 weeks on the Oosterdam, I have read your reviews, I do think its tough traveling alone. I am going with a friend so we should have a good time. seniormiss Posted February 18, 2007 #24 Share Posted February 18, 2007 Hi again Dude, sorry for the double post up above, I'm still sort of a novice at this. One more thing...I sailed to Alaska on the Mercury about 4 years ago and loved the ship. That was 4 years ago, but I'm sure its still in pretty good shape.
