[/b]In your opinion, of course :)

Obviously it is worthy of discussion with 20+ posts so far :D :D :D

Most negative comments about Princess on this board are worthy of discussion/rebuttal/rebuke by Princess loyalists :D

I did not read ALL the messages but if a photo is on the Photo Wall and I do not like it I take it down and put it in the box they have for photos not wanted. I do not have to leave it up until the end of the cruise!. There is the box with the slot for not wanted pictures usually kind of out of sight by a post.

We always decline having our picture taken. We get a LOT of dirty looks from the Princess staff when we decline. It certainly doesn't ruin my cruise but with thousands of others who would like their picture taken, why bother with the people that do not? Dirty looks (although never a negative comment) are unnecessary.

OK, I'll bite...I'll post to this ridiculous thread and inflate the ego of the original poster.

As was stated previously, you must have a very high opinion of yourself to think that anyone on the cruise ship cares a lick about what you and your wife look like when boarding. Are you famous and don't want this pic in the latest tabloids?

Funny thing...when I walk past or around ship photogs about a dozen people will follow us with a quick "thanks". More often most people, like cattle, will just stand in any line thinking there is a big reward at the end.

Did you even have the moxey to ask someone what the line was for? Or did you just follow the herd?

We also chose to skip the photos - both the ones boarding and disembarking in the ports. They take up time and I have no interest in purchasing them. We cruise 2 to 3 times a year these days and we get plenty of our own photos. Besides, by the time we fly, travel, and get through the security and all that, we are hot and sweaty and are certainly not looking our best. Thank you anyway! LOL

That said, I don't think it is something to get all worked up over. We simply bypass the line and cut through the baricades if there are any and move on. People typically follow us feeling the same way, but never quite sure what to do about it.

My vacation, so I don't do anything that I do not want to do unless it is legally required! The other photos that bother me are the ones in the dining room. My daughter and I (and my mom) get terrible migraine headaches from flashes. So when they aren't really neccesary, no thanks!

I think the ships' photographers are taking lessons from the Steiner spa people! I never have my picture taken any more - I only have a few formal outfits and have enough pictures of me in each of them to last a lifetime!

One of the fake pirates actually grabbed DH's arm in an effort to get him to stop for a picture. I've had them ask me what's wrong with me that I don't want my picture taken. They are always sorry that they asked that question!

Never bought a photo on a ship. Had picture taken several times just because I got tired of saying no and having to explain my reason for not wanting a picture taken. The cruise lines are trying harder and harder to make money from passengers. They do not see people walking around, they see sail-cards and dollar signs. That is all they see. They are there to make money. At some point it will hurt their bottom line the way they nickel and dime us.

My Dad tells a great story of not wanting to stop and get his picture taken with my Mom as they were boarding. He looked at the photographer and whispered "no picture please, this is not my wife" Photographer left them alone and they had a good laugh!!

Troll.

--------

No way!

A troll is someone who goes on a message board to stir up trouble. And lies to stir up conversation. That is not me, instead I bring up topics of conversation about the cruise experience that happen to me and are real life situations that are worthy of discussion.

Some people think that unless it is light and fluffy, it should not be brought up. No, not all aspects of cruising is great, someone has to be honest.

Oh, by the way, I enjoy cruising, but some aspects of the experience are negative. I take the good with the bad.

So, what was good about the cruise? We like to hear the good with the bad, too.

Tell us.....:D

You can hide your "terrible" picture. Might have to do it once a day, but just tuck it in behind someone elses if it really bothers you. Or, just tear it and tuck it in a corner. If it's yours and people seeing you tear it up see that it's you in the pic, they're not gonna say anything. Particularly if you tell em Princess won't take it down for you.

I don't get that issue -the last several cruises we have taken they have a closed bin with a slot in it to drop in your photos you are note interested in to clear out space for the others. As many people have already mentioned. Personally, I am not over there to look at other's photos, much less worry about how they looked. We do look at any we ended up in - and we do get the kids or all of us in a formal shot or two to decide if we want to purchase. But their prices are extremely over the top for what we are getting and that gets old!

Two questions -

1. Why do they want to take pictures of people boarding, most of whom are hot, tired, etc. ? I've never wanted to get a picture of that day in that condition.

2. How come pictures were much better 20 years ago? The new cameras seem to show a lot of wrinkles that the older ones didn't. Nancy

.

When we finally got up to the photographer we were not so happy, and did not want to have our picture taken. They insisted and would not let us board until we posed. We saw the picture later and it was terrible. We asked if we could just have it thrown away and not buy it. They told us it would stay on the wall until the end of the cruise, unless we bought it. Hundreds of people were likely to see the terrible picture of us that week.

I hate Ship Photographers!

Take the picture you do not want and put it in the discard bin if they have one, if not tear it up and give it to the photographer.

Our embarkation photos are always a sight to behold. lol Hot, sweaty, been up for 15 hours.... makes for a great shot. I, too am always worried that the other passengers are looking at my photo, laughing, talking about it at the casino. :D

Sometimes the photographers are a bit annoying, but never bothered us too bad. We've been known to say no thanks and move past them. We usually pose and buy more photos when the kids are with us.

The exception was on our recent Crown cruise. The photographers there actually got quite snippy when we said "no thanks". My husband is not one to let snippy photographers force him into posing for a picture, but I found it bothersome. Hopefully this isn't the new trend in photographers. I wonder if they get in trouble if they don't take enough photos or something? Anyway, we will cruise again and love it.

PAMMO , that is the best line, your dad is funny and smart!

Some of you are being a bit judgmental to the OP( I think some of you may have disagreed with him on other posts since you seem so sensitive) , just because something has not happened TO YOU does not mean it has not happened to anyone. We have only cruised 4 times, BUT were accosted by a VERY PUSHY photographer on one of our cruises, did not accept a " no thanks" wanted to know " why" and said " oh come on, don't be a spoil sport" went on and on even though we were giving him the look of " drop dead and leave us alone" .. , he didn't know we had spent the better part of an entire day flying , been up since 5 am the day before and had lost a bag. I mean , I think saying no thanks should be enough, and I believe for most photographers it is, but , there are some who probably are pushy sh*ts.

As for Princess they have no business not having a line for people who want to by pass the photograher without looking like line jumpers. No, I should not have to wait an additional length of time beyond check in and security for a stupid photo. We don't like or buy them, if you do that is fine.. wait for one.

We are travelling with our three kids this time, and I have a feeling that we will all be wrung out by the time we get to the ship( we will change planes twice and arrive in Ft Lauderdale after midnight, taxi to hotel, and will have been us since 5 am again that day) so I really hope I don't have to deal with this ,, I havn't always, so lets keep our fingers crossed.

PS Some of you just jump on a plane and get to the port in 4 or 5 hours, coming from an island on the west coast of Canada it is a JOURNEY to get to the port, plus crossing three time zones ..give some of us the benefit of the doubt, we really may be exhausted and frazzled, and we need to get on that darn ship and rest!

I've never wished that I had bought one of the cheesy photos with a pirate, polar bear, or other costumed character. Those are the photos that seem silly to me.

On our Sun Princess cruise in December, I noticed a few photos taken on the private island with the same guy in them ... and then I realized that it was a cruise staff member. He was in a quarter of the photos. Another quarter had a female staff member.

I have a hundreds of photos of me with the stupid chicken from when I worked on ships in the 80's. You know what? I have the biggest grin on my face in those photos! Happy times...many memories...all brought back when I look at those stupid chicken photos!!! (of course, I didn't have to mortgage my house to buy them!!!)

We didn't do this consciously, but it was fun to look at the photo we took at embarkation (tired, stressed, looking like death-warmed-over:eek: ) then at one late in the cruise (tan, rested, happy:) ).

I think we might make an effort to do this on our upcoming Crown cruise. We may not buy the pics, but they'll be worth a good laugh on the last night!!!

No one ever forces you to have a picture taken. It is not a requirement to board the ship. IF you're that easy of a push-over and can't speak up for yourself, then you'll obviously have problems in other areas of your life too.

You simply wait in line with all the other people, then when it's your turn, you simply say, "No thanks," and walk right through to the other side. We've done it many, many times for embarkation & when walking off the gangplank at ports.

If you don't like your picture, take it down and drop it in the large wooden bin that says, "Unwanted Photos". Again, it's very simple.

Why make a mountain out of a molehill?

Oh, of course, we do just say no. My question was how to avoid the long line. It would be nice to have access to the ship without waiting for the picture line.

After my first cruise I have skipped the initial photo op. THere are a lot of other chanced to get pictures. I just want to get onto the ship and to my cabin.

No one forces you to do anything. I am always polite and say "no thank you".

Embarkation on Princess is usually pretty good.
