Why do people complain so much?

of how she and her DH went on their third transatlantic repositional cruise last Christmas. They had a wonderful time as usual but she said that every time anyone asked them how their trip went, her DH went into this tirade about how bad the breakfast on the plane was.... Nothing about how good the cruise was or how good everything else was.... Simply how bad this one meal on a plane was....

He is very close getting a frying pan around the ear...:D

I do note a drop in the service and quality as the ships get bigger, but on my first cruise, on more than one occasion, I overheard passengers in the buffet and in the dining room complaining that they couldn't get the food they got at home. For example one man sat in the dining room at lunch time and ordered a tuna fish sandwich (not on the menu, although the chef managed to accomodate him) and another man in the buffet lineup was trying to get a "plain grilled cheese sandwich." Others complained about having to "dress up for dinner" when they didn't have to at home. No wonder the cruise lines have opted for more casual food and dining.

First of all, if you have ever been on a cruise you know it is more than $100/day. Even if you get an inside cabin for $700 for a 7 day cruise there are 2 of you so it is already $200 a day. Throw in a couple hundred each for port taxes and automatic tipping, not to mention transportation. And it adds up rather quickly. That being said, cruising is an excellent value ver land only vacations and much less stressfull.

I agree. Our cruise is over $4000.00, I sure hope things go well. We have to travel in the summer...so it's expensive. I also agree with you, some people do complain alot, some complaints are warranted, but some are ridiculous.

I dont think it helps that there are so many posts such as "If I pay for a inside guarantee what are my chances that Ill get an outside or balcony" and a few folks try to tell them dont count on it, and then ten more post that one time it happened to them and dont say how many times they werent upgraded until newbies think they have a good chance.

or the many posts of "I was upgraded is this good or bad"...

Iv only been on CC a few months and already I think folks give new cruisers unrealistic expectations.

I wonder if any of these folks was ever in a hotel room with the couple in the next room going at it, at least on a cruise so far the walls seem to not shake. I must be pretty easy to please.

I don't have a cruise scheduled let alone booked!:(

I think it's great that people get upgrades, but it's kind of like the casino, we only hear about the winner.

I agree about folks only commenting when they have gotten upgrades.

So when are you going to schedule a cruise....it's high time. No more putting it off. I start planning the next one before I even go on the one in front of me. We have one 4/8 and planning the next one already.

I agree with you here- People who read these boards about upgrades dont know that members represent less then 1% of the cruising public.

Most people get upgraded within the category they booked. Rare do people get upgraded to another category.

My first 4 cruises were guarantee. and never got upgraded--not even one deck.

I did a poll a few years back-- and it seemed the more you pay-- the better your chances.. since i book so long in advance my chances of getting upgraded are almost nil. So today I book a set cabin.

We travel as a group. My best guess is Pearl next Feb.

2 more years until retirement and 365 vacation days a year!:D

I always get gty, but never upgraded. I could really care less although it would be nice. But I'm just happy to be able to go cruising, have the best time that I can. I feel grateful to have my son, job, all the necessities in life, and extras like vacations. Everyone will always have opinions and their own views. Cruising beats staying home and doing chores. I love that I don't have to worry about cleaning, dishes, making beds, and grocery shopping, atleast not until I get home. That's the only worse part, the ending of vacation.:(

Now if that toilet stopped working, eeewww. That would be a problem.

I think that sometimes the complaining happens because with a vacation, you pay a lot of money for an experience vs. spending money on something tangible that you can look at and hold. It's not like plunking down $1500 on a big screen TV and having that TV to look at every night to validate your having spent the $1500. When the cruise experience doesn't live up to expectations, some feel cheated. As much as people have said that cruising has become more affordable for the masses, I think it's still hard for some people to part with the money it costs to go on a cruise - for them it's a gamble as to whether they will have a good enough time to think of it as money well spent.

I also thing there is a group of people out there who make a mission to get something for nothing and when they're not successful they retaliate by bashing those who refuse to cater to their whims.
