Thanks for the information.. Ok then, when looking at the fleetwide menus that are posted, would the menus stay the same day to day, but formal nights would just be changed? I know this sounds confusing. For example, would the fisherman's platter still be on Friday, or be switched to Thursday's formal night?

The menu didn't change during our 14 days. The chief's dinner was on the same day both weeks regardlest of the dress code.

Lobster was served on the same day both weeks.

Would someone be kind enough to let me know what time the parades are on? We missed them on the Navigator since unfortunately I was not able to determine the times last year and am hoping not to miss them this year.

Many thanks

Thank You VERY much massfriends! Despite trying very hard to locate the parades during our last cruise I was not able to locate them on the Daily Compass.

I do very much appreciate the time you took to provide the information to me:)

Have a gr8 day,

This forum and thread has been a great source of info for me. Thank you!

I have never cruised before or considered cruising and my dad has booked 12 of us for the Mariner in June (Eastern Caribbean) so I'm quite the newbie.

I have read some of the previous Compasses but where are the sample menus the above posters are talking about?

Thanks for your help and I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions!

My boyfrien and I just booked on the Mariner 4/27/08. We have only cruised once before which was last year and it was on Carnival. What should we expect differently on RCCL? We booked a JS. Does anyone know if we get priority boarding for having a JS out of Port Canaveral? What are these Parades that you are talking about? Any other tips I should know about? We loved the Carnival Miracle last year, but we are hoping that the bars are more fun on the Mariner. On Carnival, there was never more then 3 or 4 people in any bar. Looking forward to any insight you have. Can't wait to see the eastern Caribbean too!

You will LOVE the Mariner. I've sailed on the Carnival Liberty and it doesn't compair to the Mariner. Plenty of bars on the promenade. I'm not positive but I don't think JS get priority but I may be wrong. The parades are down the middle of the Promenade Marti-Gra style. They don't last long. You will want to try Chops at least one night...GREAT FOOD. RCCL doesn't have all the loud colors and such like Carnival. Carnival centers there ships around the casino while RCCL around the Promenade. I don't recall seeing too many empty bars on the ship. It depends on what shows are going on. The later the better for the bar crowd. And trust me..you will have plenty to chose from.. HAVE A GREAT TRIP!

I sail out on the Mariner on March 9th in a JS and it will be my second time. I have also sailed on Carnival and honestly I like them both but they are very diffrent. I thought that Carnival was more of a party/family ship. It was more of a mellow atmosphere on RCCL.

You do not get any priority by booking a JS. Only the larger suites! :(

I do not think you get priority boarding for a Jr. Suite. There are 2 parades in the Promenade on 2 different nights during the cruise. The first one is the first night. The Promenade is where most of the bars are located and they are usually busy with people in them and most are fun - just depends on what you're looking for. Schooner Bar, Boleros and Viking Crown Lounge are typically very good. There is a thread for this sailing on the RCI Meet and Mingle Boards where you can chat with people who will be on your cruise.

Someone else was also asking about kids on their sailing. I'd try the Meet and Mingle Thread for your particular sailing to get specific info from the passengers on your cruise.

Good Luck!

You will LOVE the Mariner....:) Be prepared to be hooked on RCCL. There is almost never a dull moment on the Mariner. Everyone has their own perception on differences between the two lines...I say judge for yourself...you will not be disappointed with the Mariner.

YES, if your in a Junior Suite you WILL get priority boarding and the larger Stateroom, plus 2 credits. The priority boarding is really no big deal as boarding is very quick anyway....just make sure you print and bring your Setsail pass with you.

The Parades:

Eastern route, Jan. 20th:

Day 1: 10:45 pm, Island A-Go-Go Bon Voyage Parade

Day 4: 11:30 pm, Enchanted Nights Parade

Another DONOT miss is the, 70's show's on the Promenade

Day 5: 10:15 pm, 70's Song tribute

10:30 pm, 70's Dance Party

Bars, there are 17 different clubs/bars all with varying opening & closing times....check your daily Compass for times & entertainment. The Wig & Gavel Pub on the Promenade is always packed until 1 AM with a sing along..lots of fun. Boleros Latin Bar has live music with dancing until 1 AM. Schooner Bar has piano music until 1 AM. Dragon's Lair has night club dancing with a DJ until very late, 2/2:30 AM depending on the crowd. There are other club's like Ellington's, that has Ballroom dance music with a live band.....just check the back of the Compass everyday. There is a section titled, MUSIC & DANCING that lists all the times and locations.

Enjoy, the Eastern Caribbean is one of our favorite's...:)

So Excited! We took our 1st RCCL cruise in Nov 07 with a bunch of our friends and we were very impressed with RC. We have been on Carnival 6 x's and Disney 3 x's. We are booked on the mariner for the Aug 24th sailing~ CANT WAIT!!! We (me 35, hubby 33, and 2 girls 4,8) will be going with our a bunch of friends and thier kids. She looks beautiful. I will be drivin' y'all nuts until then with questions. We are booked in balcony cabin 8518.All I know is that it is forward. I booked with a RCCL agent and she said that its a superiour balcony. Whats the difference between sup and deluxe besides price??

thanks for all the great info everyone. I am so excited. Does anyone know what updates were done do the Mariner in dry dock? Also, what is this about a Murder Mystery that I read in a previous thread. Are they currently doing it, like as of Jan08?

During the dry dock they do the typical refurbishing stuff...paint, carpet replacement and a general over all heavy cleaning of the entire ship. They replaced all the bedding....very comfy..Enjoy.

Portofino Mystery Dinner Theater....this is from the Compass Jan. 20th Eastern route...it was held on day 3.

A night filled with mystery an intrigue. It's an interactive dinner show that includes champagne & hors d'oeuvres, followed by a four course dinner with wine in Portofino Restaurant. $49.50 per person (gratuity included). Recommended for adults only.

Superior balcony cabins are 206 sq ft while deluxe are 184 sq ft. So, you have 22 sq ft more space which is good since there are 4 of you in the cabin. Based on the deck plans, you will have a sofabed for your girls to share which isn't bad since they are little. We actually requested an egg crate to be put on the sofabed for our son and it made it more comfortable for him.
