spongerob Posted May 2, 2007 #26 Share Posted May 2, 2007 Dave, reading your other posts you sound like a decent person, so I'm going to suggest that you just work on getting over it. Having been on an inaugural sailing all I can say is it's no big deal. In fact, with all the VIP's and guests about, the regular (that is, those who actually paid for the privelege of being on board) passengers tend to suffer from lack of service. This might end up working out better for you.
jlp20 Posted May 2, 2007 #27 Share Posted May 2, 2007 .....i get my travel documents ands they are dire!!!! 1 piece of paper!! that is the cruise ticket!!! i know i have been spoiled by regent 7 seas cruises where ui get lovely documents in leather walletys but i expect better from princess...... All men wore hats and you would dress up to fly in a plane, but that was 50 years ago. Welcome to the 21st century...
terrierjohn Posted May 2, 2007 #28 Share Posted May 2, 2007 you got a total of "0" facts correct..... all balcony cabins on the Royal do have sofas except for those with adjoining doors (so the door can open)...and the sailing ceremony was not postponed because of the alignment of the stars...or the scheduling of those invited to attend...it was delayed because of the sinking of a ship.....as the original poster stated I assume this is correct so I now have to check which non-connecting cabins are still available, because a sfa will be much more use to me than a connecting door. Yes, this was the layout of our balcony cabin on the Tahitian.
Toto2Kansas Posted May 2, 2007 #30 Share Posted May 2, 2007 i booked the 8th may on the royal princess specifically to see the double naming in santoirini If this was the specific reason you actually booked it, and it has changed, I would think about cancelling the cruise. It sounds like it was the one and only reason you wanted to sail on this particular date and without it, you will be very disappointed no matter what you find. Answering my own question, my TA has checked with Princess and the sofa will (should) be there, it's only removed if you want to make use of the connecting door. That's a relief because there is only one BB balcony left and it's on the Port side which will not have evening sun on the balcony for the 5 days we are heading south, unless I've got my geography wrong. Roses2 Posted May 2, 2007 #33 Share Posted May 2, 2007 I believe most of us find it extraordinary that anyone would book a cruise primarily because of a "naming ceremony" that probably would be an intrusive rather than a salutory benefit to the cruise. One would have to be unusually star struck to be overly impressed with the celebrities scheduled to be aboard. Oh well, we all march to different drummers and to different tunes. Sealicker Posted May 2, 2007 #36 Share Posted May 2, 2007 Man, you guys are rude and harsh, if I booked a cruise for a naming ceremony, I would expect to get it. They are certainly within their rights to be disappointed, just because many of you don't care, the OP may, and that is their right. Also, I would like to point out that spelling and grammar errors are to be overlooked and to point them out to a poster is a violation of the site guidelines - grow up - you don't have to belittle the OP's presentation to minimize his message. zaandam_2 Posted May 2, 2007 #38 Share Posted May 2, 2007 this wasn't just a typical naming ceremony. it was to be the 1st ever dual naming ceremony with lots of celebs flown in for the occasion. it was marketed as a special event. i do agree, however, that out of respect it was a good idea to change the event. However, tragic events beyond the control of Princess happened. I'm sure Princess would rather have had the dual naming ceremony but circumstances prevented that. Disappointment is understandable but IMHO, it's time for the OP to get over his disappointment and move on.
Tahoestarr Posted May 2, 2007 #40 Share Posted May 2, 2007 Come on, the OP has the right to be disappointed....however, we do not have the right to be rude! What I'm ticked off about is that I didn't win the Mother Daughter Cruise contest that they obviously canceled as well! Now there is something to be upset about :( ! emdia43 Posted May 2, 2007 #41 Share Posted May 2, 2007 If this was to be the highlight of your cruise I am sorry for your disappointment.... but have you tried calling Princess and explaining your predicament? Maybe they would let you transfer your booking to the one in June? Just a thought.
seabourndt Posted May 2, 2007 Author #42 Share Posted May 2, 2007 am i being negative? maybe i am, for the poster that does not know what happy days and the brady bunch has to do with this they are the actors that are christening the EMERALD PRINCESS! 2 of who should have named our ship. to the poster that mentioned HAL they are another good cruiseline. great documents. they also were better organised, a cruise critic party onboard, where on this cruise iam doing all the work. sorry if my spelling is a bit off i need spell check. sure the letters i wrote were done without any errors. a lot of negative comments i must say. after doing almost 40 cruises! iam getting more and more picky i guess. there are \always good and bad in all cruises. i'm sure i will enjoy the cruise despite the dissapointment. iam not going on this cruise to be miserable will be enjoy all the great ports of call. thanks for all the replies. dave
tcdtcd Posted May 2, 2007 #43 Share Posted May 2, 2007 Contestants - Please name all the "stars" from each of the shows mentioned (Love Boat, Brady Bunch, and Happy Days) and correctly identify which ones are alive, which are dead, and which are just washed-up has-been B-list celebs. You have 30 seconds.... :)
emdia43 Posted May 2, 2007 #44 Share Posted May 2, 2007 tcdtcd- well it's what he is interested in,so what does it matter what anyone else thinks ? I don't understand why anyone would want a casino on a ship, but there are lots that love it,so each to his own. If it was the highlight of his cruise and it is possible to reschedule I think I would give Princess a call and ask if they would do that- since it was no one's fault that all the plans went awry.
