Has Voyager Been Upgraded also?

Recommended Posts

We have been on the Mariner twice in the last year-before drydock. I hear she has really been spruced up.

Does anyone know if Voyager has also been refurbed? Are the two ships really identical or will I feel as if I am on a different ship?

Thanks.

The two ships aren't identical, at all, as far as layout goes. They are quite different, I think they were built at two different shipyards.

Voyager was in dry dock for several weeks in December; an unexpected repair need lengthened the expected time.

From what I have seen (and heard) -- all Regent ships have been refurbished for 2007. Apparently not all TV's have been replaced but will be in the near future. The only major "fix" to be completed is the replacement of the dysfuctional pod on the Mariner -- I believe it will be fixed next year (it is slowing the ship down a tiny bit).

We were on the Navigator last month -- she looked great - apparently the same is true of the Voyager and Mariner (PG -- not Regent-owned was refurbished a couple of years ago).

The Voyager is only three years old so still looks quite new inside. I left her in Januaryafter the dry dock; the dry dock was more about the outside than in. There was some work carried out inside but nothing substantial, however the ship looks great.

I think CruiseDivaNJ has the Royal Caribbean Voyager and Mariner confused with Regent's two ships. The RCCL ships are very similar, but the Regent ships of similar name are very different.

I agree, the Seven Seas Navigator was launched in 1999, the Mariner was next in 2001 and the Voyager was launched in 2003

To answer this question, no they are not identical but they are similar, you will notice you are on a different ship alright but I think you will still feel somewhat at home

The only upgrades the Voyager got in drydock were the soft goods( bedding, etc.); they're still negotiating a price for the flat panel TVs. She is quite different from Mariner. Voyager is slightly shorter and the outside deck at La Veranda is not quite as big as Mariner. The Voyager Lounge is much different than the Mariner Lounge in that it has a dance floor and has nightly entertainment. It's the in place and right across from the casino! The pool bar on Voyager is forward on the port side instead of aft, as on Mariner. The Observation Lounge on Voyager is much smaller than Mariner. They have recently added a very nice viewing area forward on deck 12, I believe. The standard staterooms on Voyager are the same as Navigator(356 sq ft), whereas Mariner's ar 301. Yes, you will feel as if you're on a different ship, especially when you're walking down the corridors. Voyager is kind of like a maze. Laundries are aft on Voyager, wheras Mariner's are just aft of the atrium. Mariner was built in France and Voyager was built in Italy by Marriotti. The ships have different pod systems as well.

Thanks for all of your answers...the answer all that I was wondering about!!!

And, I am sure glad to hear they have different pod systems. We were on the fateful MUSH cruise from Alaska where the POD went KAPUT and we spent a over a full day going at about 5 knots an hour!

The best part was watching this teeny tiny tug boat ahead of the ship "pull" us along! Actually the tugboat wasn't pulling us--more like guiding us I guess--but it sure was a funny sight!

It was a memorable cruise--I assure you.

Again, thanks for the answers....looking forward to meeting Mariner's sister Voyager!

  • 2 weeks later...

I have just returned from the Voyager. They are still working on refurbishing some of the cabins. I did have a flat screen tv, and the addition to deck 12 has been dismantled, which was a disappointment.

It still is a great ship but the refurbishing has not quite been finished yet.

Marylisbet -

We were on a semi "Presidents Cruise" last November, and Ken Watson, EVP of RSSC told us that what really happened in the Tracy Arm in 04 was that the pod hit a "growler" - under water iceberg. Now isn't that something!! No wonder we went soooo slowly down to Vancouver! It seems from the discussion of the pods on these boards that the state of the art is not yet here! Let's hope it all gets fixed for good soon.

HomeLover, can you elaborate on the dismantling of the changes made to Deck 12 during the World Cruise? I was on the last crossing as well, and things looked the same to me as pictures I saw during the WC. Bench was still there, no gates. Did they "dismantle" this while we were on the ship? I just went up there during the first day or two of the crossing.

We just got off the Voyager on Monday. Not sure how dec 12 looked during the WC, but it did now allow access around the plexiglass so you could get up close to the front (I don't remember this as an option on previous trips). I don't remember if there was a bench though. We did not have a flat screen. The bedding linens seemed upgraded, but things like towels were not. Overall I thought the ship looked great as always, but it did seem that some of the obsession with cleaning that I remember from the past was a little lacking on this cruise (balcony chairs and tables showing dirt, pool chairs showing some dirt, etc.), but this was minor. The ship and cruise were fantastic.

Glad to see that the Deck 12 improvements have in fact not been dismantled. For those who have not been on the Voyager for a while, here is what we are talking about:

Enroute to China from Manila on the World Cruise, on Deck 12 a railing was added forward of the wind screens, the gates at the ends of the wind screens were removed and a bench was added later over a beam on the deck. It was a great improvement...finally an place for sightseeing and taking photos with an unobstructed forward view! It was hard to believe that it took four years to make this improvement. Congrats to Capt Dag for getting it done. (The thought that someone would dismantle it is outrageous. Glad to see that that is not the case.)

(In another post someone questioned whether or not that the improvements might have interferred with the navigation systems.

Yes, they did have to recalibrate the back-up compass located in this area. It was done as we departed Gibraltar on the World Cruise. A civilian "tuner" came onboard while we spun for an hour in the harbor. But I thought I heard the tuner say that this was something he does annually...though the metal in the railing did cause it to be needed.)

Glad to hear that there has been no change and that everyone can continue to enjoy this area for unobstructed forward views.
