  • 2 weeks later...

Found an E-mail cruise bulletin from RCCL announcing it's new Aust/NZ cruises on Rhaposody of the Seas beginning Oct. 27 of this year. BUT it's only two round trips from Sydney before the ship goes to it's Asia itineraries and the prices for the cabins, at least the OV ones, are $300 more than we are paying on Mercury. About the same for anyone booking an OV cabin now for Mercury, if there are any left. I don't like the itin. because neither one goes to both Hobart, Tas. AND Melbourne. It doesn't stay in Sydney that first night to give pax a chance for more sightseeing before sailing. Round-trip means having to cross the Tasmanian Sea twice and I'm worried enough about crossing it once, hoping to get lucky and hit a calm time.

I'll be interested to see how well it sells. I'm surprised it's not a full season itinerary--maybe Rhapsody is the RCCL's "guinea pig" and a larger ship will take over later, like X is doing.

Anyone have inside info?

Tasman sea at it's worst. ( Won't be like this when you are cruising here). These are the worst seas here in Newcastle for 33 years

I CERTAINLY hope NOT!! That ship is really close to the dock and road seen in the picture....hope it didn't hit either of them.

The photo was taken as the ship (Pasha Bulker) was running aground on Nobbys Beach at Newcastle. It is stuck between two reefs only metres from the beach and is still there 24hrs later.

The hope is that it will not break up, and can be refloated when the seas settle down.
