Rare sonomaphil Posted May 19, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 19, 2007 There are some screaming values on this list with a very minimal markup compared to land based restaurants! When I saw the Caymus two weeks ago on the CB at $78 a bottle I jumped on it. You can't find it retail for less that $55 now a days and most wine lists have it over $100! LARGIN Posted May 19, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted May 19, 2007 Correct and the Muriettas Well Meritage, one of my favorites, is cheaper on the ship than it is at the winery.. :D
Rare sonomaphil Posted May 19, 2007 #4 Share Posted May 19, 2007 Correct and the Muriettas Well Meritage, one of my favorites, is cheaper on the ship than it is at the winery.. :D I haven't tried that one yet but our quick Coastals are only 3 months away! Thanks for the tip! The Silverado Cab at $52 is a great buy also. It's $40 retail! And the La Crema Pinot at $30 is wonderful! I saw that at my local TJ's for $19.99 when I got back last week! cruzinchris Posted May 19, 2007 #9 Share Posted May 19, 2007 Thanks, Larry. Nice wines, really nice prices. Will still pack a few bottles to enjoy in our stateroom but there are some fine wine selections on the Princess list. Cheers! Chris
umma Posted May 19, 2007 #10 Share Posted May 19, 2007 Cruzinchris I couldn't help but notice you're a Red Wings fan....obviously from Michigan. So are we. Leaving Wednesday for Alaska on a Coral Princess cruisetour. I'll let you know how the wine is.
LARGIN Posted May 19, 2007 Author #11 Share Posted May 19, 2007 Petefoss.. Sorry I did not get a wine by the glass list. cruzinchris.. I usually bring 4-6 bottles depending on the length of the cruise to bring to the table. As for the Princess list, my favorites in the mid-price range are the Muriettas Well Meritage, Robert Mondavi Carneros Merlot, Frogs Leap Zin, Kenwood Jack London Cab and any of the Barolos or Brunellos. As you can see I am partial to reds. :D

Leaving Wednesday for Alaska on a Coral Princess cruisetour. I'll let you know how the wine is. Two favorites on the Princess winelist are the Cuvaison Chardonnay and the Kenwood Jack London Cabernet. If we hadn't cruised on Princess we likely wouldn't have these two fine wines in our repertoire. We have a bottle or two of each on every cruise. Have a wonderful Alaskan cruise! Drove me nuts trying to find a case in my area...found it though.:D Still have 2 bottles left. Bring your corkscrew.

happy cruzer Posted May 20, 2007 #15 Share Posted May 20, 2007 Hi, thanks for the list. We had a couple of wines as gifts from our TA. Soooo we tried the Round Hill Merlot and Slyvest Cab. Annnndd they were pretty good values. We definitely enjoyed them. We eat alot of lamb, duck, etc. so we are into the Pinot Noirs. We do like La Crema too but we bring several bottles of our favorite Pinot Noirs onboard and pay the corkage fee to get what we really enjoy. And where is the Cava? I love Cava. All things considered the wine policy and experience on Princess is outstanding!!!!

happy cruzer Posted May 20, 2007 #21 Share Posted May 20, 2007 Hi, what grapes are in the Muriettas Well Meritage? Is it a bordeaux blend? what do you pair it with? I will just bring one of my favorite cavas with me. DH loves the red wines so if I want any white it will be in my carryon while all the reds are loving double wrapped and packed securely in the checked luggage.:p I have really enjoyed studing THE LIST! thanks. mandabear Posted May 20, 2007 #22 Share Posted May 20, 2007 Thanks for posting the list! Did I see that correctly, a Brunello for $46?! It's over $55 at my local store, and I love it!
LARGIN Posted May 20, 2007 Author #23 Share Posted May 20, 2007 happy.. The Meritage is a Bordeaux style blend containing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot grapes. The 2002 is 78% Cab, 10% Petit, 7% Cab Franc & 5% Merlot. In other years the percentage varies. Mandabear.. The Brunello is $46. It is good but not great. cruzinchris Posted May 20, 2007 #24 Share Posted May 20, 2007 happy.. The Meritage is a Bordeaux style blend containing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot grapes. Malbec (Argentina and Chile) is approximately the same blend. We love these wines :) . Chris
loge23 Posted May 20, 2007 #25 Share Posted May 20, 2007 It's a good list. We used to bring wine onboard but a couple of years ago re-discovered the selection onboard. I've always thought that the better the wine, the better the value on Princess. I see that there are quite a few others that have noticed this as well. Shhhh!! Let's not give Princess any ideas!
