What is the first night on ship like?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what the first night is like? Is dinning times still the same regarding if you have late or early dinning. Also on formal nights, is dinner time the same for everyone or do you still go your sched. time?

Dining room times remain the same for the whole week. On the first night it is more "casual" because some people will not have received their luggage yet. So it's "come as you are" on the first night.

Have a wonderful cruise!

Your dining time and table number will be on your seapass card that you receive when boarding the ship. Your dinner time remains contest throughout you trip.

On the first night the dress code is casual since some people may not receive their luggage in time for dinner.

Sometimes on the first night they will change the dinner times slightly; but its in the cruise compasss which you'll find in your cabin. On our recent AOS, our normal dinner time was 8:30; first night was 9. But it is go as you are, and the rest of the time you can spend exploring the ship, going to the welcome show, or whatever you choose. It's very laid back and fun.

Check what time your dinner time is, in spite of what is written on your sea pass or even the daily planner. Both were wrong on the first night, for us.

The first night rule is always casual. Many people have not received their luggage so the dining rooms relaxes almost all rules. Keep in mind this is still RCL and if you were planning on showing up in a string bikini, gogo boots and a neon green pair of daisy dukes, you will likely alienate a lot of your table mates.

You may also want to happen by the dining room to find out a bit about where your table is located and the make up of your table if you are at a larger table. We like to be seated at a more International table with table mates from other commonwealth countries. This allows you to see where you table is and if the mix is well rounded enough to make for good conversation. We want a table of mixed couples and I'm just not sure I'm ready to sit down to dinner with a family.

As all others have mentioned already dining times are the same througout the entire cruise. However so far I exoerienced one exemtion to this. When your ship stays at a port overnight or departs late night (after dinner times) they usually switch to open seating dinner and you show up at your leisure and will be seated randomly and not at your designated table.

They do this because many people are ashore for dinner anyway and only few show up for dinner at the dining room. However it will be announced in the Compass and by your waiters.

A lot of people are tired from travelling, some from great distances so it is always casual. The dining room usually isn't full either, too tired to eat in the dining and they'll grab something from the dinner buffet.

Ahhh... the first night of a cruise. They wouldn't even have to feed me and it would still be great!

I love that first day and night on the ship. Exploring the ship; meeting your wait staff and cabin steward. Sail away party. I'll be doing all of this in 3 weeks! :D:D:D

First nights are great!! You walk all around to see all you can squeeze in before dinner, meet nice people and realize you don't have to worry about what to make for dinner for a whole week!

The worst night is the last - very sad - so savor the moment of the first night!

Enjoy!!!!

I didn't know you could go by the dining room and find out about the makeup of your table. Will they give you names, so you can practice remembering them? that would be quite helpful with 6 strangers to meet. Are the doors open so you can scope out the location of your exact table? Thx

Many on the roll calls set up a place and time to meet the first night also. :)
