This you gotta see!

Recommended Posts

We are only a few weeks out from out first ever cruise. We sail on the Mariner of the seas to the W. Carribean. Please share what is NOT to miss or you just those suttle little nuances that you remember from the ship that we need to be sure to check out. For instance did I read about a mens room that has amazing views? The day signs in the elevator, the best "secret" place on the ship for a great view, most amazing interior view, shorts cuts from deck 10 aft cabins to hot spots...................anything! Just tell me about the ship to help pass the time for a few more weeks!:p

You will absolutely LOVE Mariner. If you're sailing on 6/17, we're on that cruise too. :)

One thing that is a must do (and not Mariner specific). Go out on the deck at night (my husband and I would go up around the peek-a-boo bridge area) and find a quiet spot (you will be pleasantly surprised at how many of these there really are) and check out the stars. It is amazing.

Other than that, relax and enjoy your cruise.

I am also looking forward to our first voyage on Mariner in about three weeks . .. :D I've heard the adult gameshow "Quest" is not to be missed! Also, heard the "Love and Marriage Show" is excellent.

Dinner at Chops the alternative restaurant is great. If you are stopping at Cozumel and plan to shop Los Soles Cinco is a great shop and behind it is Pancho's Backyard a good Mexican Restaurant. The Mariner is a great ship and was our first ship back to crusing after 17 or so years.

By no means am I an expert on the Voyager class ships, but I can tell you that -- on Navigator -- the view from the Viking Crown lounge (deck 14?) was amazing. It was so nice to have a quiet drink up there before dinner. Not sure if it's called the same thing on Mariner, but there is probably a lounge like that on Mariner too.

Thank you -keep 'em coming! I want to hear all your input on this. Don't you just hate to get home and THEN hear about something cool you missed! It's sort of our thing to look for the hidden gems on a trip.

You have got to see the ice show....that was totally awesome.

Make sure you get a chance to go out to the very front of the ship (helicopter pad).

Make sure you get pictures of the "centrums" (where the elevators are) at either end of the Royal Promenade- great artwork. Pictures from the uppermost and lowermost decks are pretty cool. The Mariner also has a ton of lovely artwork on the walls at the stairway "landings".

If you're going to Labadee, you'll get some great shots of the ship anchored off the shore.

We're going on the Mariner for our 2nd time in December... can't wait- we're finally under 200 days!!!

Don't miss the ice show. You will need tickets (free). They will be announced in the Daily Programme. Also see the parade the first night starting at 11:15 on deck 5 (the mall area). The Viking Crown Loung is the same name on all Voyager class ships.

i'm not a fan of "things you've got to see/do".... the important thing to remember is that its your vacation.... there's no test when you get home that says "oh you didn't do A, B or C, so you fail". The important thing is to do what you want... enjoy .... and go with the flow. Anything that you miss on this cruise... will just give you an incentive to go on another cruise:D

I agree with everyone on seeing the ICE show! It is fantastic!

The Mariner is the nicest, prettiest ship we have EVER been on!!! It is just so GREAT! There will be a parade at sail off. I wouldn't miss that. It is in the Royal Promenade. We went to all the shows & they were all GREAT!

Eat at Protofino and/or Chops.

Go to the ice show.

Go to Quest.

Eat the cookies at the Promenade Cafe.

Notice the art work and how its different on all of the floors. (It helps if you take the stairs a lot like we did - every landing had cool art!)

Even if you don't gamble, walk into the casino and look at the neat pinball art in the floor at the entrance.

Check your compass for music throughout the ship, throughout the day and take advantage...sometimes we were the only ones listening.

Relax and have a wonderful time - you will LOVE the Mariner.

All of the Voyager class ships have drop dead gorgeous hand sewn Stage curtains. On Mariner they are in the Savoy Theater. (This is where you will see the music productions etc.) Here's the coolest thing my sister and I noticed and have since sailed on every Voyager class ship and made a point of seeing the curtains.

Why you might ask? Well, besides being beautiful they also have a twist. While everyone of the ladies on the curtains *looks* identical, they aren't. There is the slightest detail different, but the difference is there non the less. Finding it wasn't as easy as it sounds, but great fun while we waited for the show to start. Sometimes it was a finger pointing a different way, a toe etc. You get the idea.:D

Enjoy!

Some cool things we discovered on the ships we've been on:

1. There actually is, at times, a topless sunbathing spot, but it is not polite to bring a camera!!!

2. Laying out on deck at night, away from the lights, and looking straight up at the stars. The best place for us was on the helicopter pad, laying on the benches there.

3. Grabbing a lounge chair and a blanket, and sitting back at the fantail, watching the cavitation of the screws in the water.

4. Giving the room service guy a $10 tip because he brought lobster tails to our room - complete with drawn butter!

5. Bringing along a bottle of champagne out on main deck at night with a blanket and your better half!

Isn't the fun of a new experience to find things out for yourself? I could tell you to don't miss the Cigar Afficinado in the bar at 10pm but if you don't smoke cigars, it would be a waste. To me, it is a don't miss. Some like the belly flop contest - I don't but to someone it might be a don't miss. So, go forth and explore on your own, only you can determine what is a don't miss.
